Pic 1 – Braised Cod $40
Pic 2 – Spicy Chicken stew $35
Each dish can feed 2-3 people and comes with 2 sides of rice, kimchi, and another pickled side dish.
It’s a small hole in the wall location that has 4 items on their menu. Beside the two items I’ve tried, they also serve Galbijjim(braised short rib) and Samgaetang(whole Cornish hen/chicken soup).

Braised Cod dish was excellent. The cod is cooked to perfection and the texture is so soft and buttery; melts in your mouth! Flavor-wise, it’s salty, savory, slightly sweet, and not spicy at all. There’s some depth to the sauce because it was braised with the vegetables on top and the radish you can’t see underneath.

The chicken stew dish is spicy, but it’s not fire noodle level spicy. It should be tolerable for folks who live in LA that can handle the spicy red salsas from taco joints. The chicken pieces Jun Won uses are the leg, thighs, and wings. The dish also includes the traditional potatoes, carrots, and onions. Really good dish and I’ve eaten this dish multiple times. Pro tip would be to pour the spicy sauce generously over the rice and mix in the chicken.

Overall, if you live in or near Ktown, Jun Won Dak deserves all the love for their food alone. The owner is also a genuinely good dude and I hope his restaurant stays open forever. I should have posted this months ago, but better late than never. Also worth mentioning is that you will have to order for pickup because they take ~30 min to prepare the food and they literally have 1 table in their restaurant.
Edit:: The restaurant is Jun Won DAK, not Dakota(i’m an idiot)
Not counting high end Korean bbq in LA/NYC and Korean fine dining in NYC this is one of the best Korean restaurants not only in Koreatown but in the country. (I eaten all over Ktown in LA, OC and in Fort Lee NJ/Queens NYC).
Jeff and his mom are pumping out incredible food. Also shout out to the assistant.
OP, I know the weather is getting warm but that sam gye tang is the best. Most places are bitter. Jeff actually gets the herbs from Korea.
They deserve all the support and money. There takeout business is pretty steady. They will be sticking to this spot for now and keeping the menu tight. I wish more Asian places would keep the menu tight and instead of trying to appeal to non-Asians.
