Those ones have handles, making them better designed than the ones we normally see.

Well, they show serving examples that actually make sense. The problems start when you’re supposed to eat a steak from it.

I’m not sure what you guys have against slate trays. Is it because restaurants put stuff with liquid on/in it on the trays?

I bought those from Bed Bath and Beyond in 2003 when I went to college. Used them as coasters. They were tacky then.
A restaurant I worked at in 2013 used them for plating rilletes and toast, and the occassional amuse and thought they were the first to think of it. They were still tacky and tired ten years on.
And now in 2023 other restaurants are catching up to this same dumb, tacky trend and I gotta ask, are we as a species doomed to recycle the same worn out, silly ideas, oblivious to the reality we’re even doing it until an asteroid, mercifully, finally wipes us all out? Is that it?
