  1. Looks good!

Honestly I think black seed bagel is overrated—I live by one in Brooklyn and it’s solid but I much prefer Shelsky’s as a more unique and delicious experience.

Although its off the beaten path in Spanish Harlem and spoken from a real bagel snob: bar none best bagels is Bo’s bagels. Those who go know.

If you like dessert you should check out Lysee!

I would swap out daves hot chicken fit rowdy rooster (Indian fried chicken, spicy too) I’d also swap out ham dynasty for spicy village.

everything looks great but I can’t endorse these bagel choices. Both Tompkins square or absolute bagels blow liberty out of the water and are in MUCH cooler neighborhoods. Absolute gives you a chance to see the Columbia area which is gorgeous and Thompkins square park is one of those places that is so quintessentially nye

Urban Hawker is great, but Hainan Jones isn’t my favorite. I know it was really hyped up when UH first opened, but I’ve found the quality kind of lacking the past few months. I’d recommend the Yuba joint in the way back next to the bar

  7. I’ve never gotten the hype around black seed bagels personally, had them a few times and am like meh. ESP bc they’re supposed to be Montreal bagels and I’ve HAD Montreal bagels and still think about them 8 years later haha. These are not those.

  8. What a list!

One thing: NY Pizza Suprema is fantastic but only the plain pizza and only dine in. Their topped slices and anything made to go are absolutely not the same and not worth it.

If you’re going to be around museum mile, sister yard has a really cool location in the Frick Madison

  10. macbookyerr

There are many better Thai places than Thai Diner

  11. Yungshowy

If you go to the Smorgasburg Wah Gwaan has an insane jerk pork taco that is a must try.

It’s not too far of a walk from Rockefeller… Ess-a-bagel is a solid NYC option.

  13. mattricide

I’ve lived in nyc for over 30 years and haven’t even tried half of those (I know many of those haven’t been around for 30 years)

  14. This is excellent work and I hope you post again after your trip. When are you going? (Coordinating with JRAD at Pier 17 on 7/27?)

I’m guessing you’re a CRG member already, but I will say it’s not the best climbing in the city. I believe both locations are in basements.

If you’re interested in tourism bouldering, the nicest/most unique gym is vital in greenpoint by mccarren. There’s an outdoor section on the roof including a topout with turf on top and a cool skyline view. Rat Rock in central park is the only real rock in the city, and the cliffs in LIC or gowanus (not harlem) have the best ropes.

NYC public pools are not particularly interesting.

Pastrami Queen is a really great option if you are faced with the pastrami question during the weekend or lunch rush… Comparable I’d say for the pastrami

Skip the color factory. It’s a stupid activity that’s made for Instagram, unless you have young kids. I was extremely annoyed by it.

  18. Slorg_Salad

Like the list! I do think Tonchin is a crazy overrated ramen restaurant though

  19. shortneon

Check out Miznon at Chelsea market, Caffe Panna for ice cream and Popup bagels on Thompson Street

  20. Idk if this is frowned up but I order Russ and daughter lox from their take out location, then I get a bagel and cream cheese from tompkin square or some other bagel place nearby. I just hate Russ and daughters bagels and cream cheese, tastes cheap

  21. Yanischemas21

You gotta get the al pastor on corn at taquiera al pastor in bushwick, best taco in NY in my opinion and ive had a bunch. Los tacos is a close 2nd for me .

Also L and B Spumoni in deep brooklyn if u have time , their sicilian square is unreal

  22. Imaginary_Spot_3038

In Chinatown I’d add Hwa Yuan. Chinese find dining at its best. Unless you are coming from an area with amazing Chinese I highly recommend this.

On the burger list – Gramercy Tavern for a thick chef-y burger. For a more “roadside / smash” go with Upland. Emily is ok but for all the hype and the wait and the uncomfortable room I’d plunk my cash and butt down at Gramercy (the bar room at lunch) or Upland (at lunch)

Grab an order of the Prata at Mamak’s Corner when you’re at Urban Hawker. Just as good as when I got it in Singapore.

  24. Style-Upstairs

IMO I’d move Szechuan Mountain House higher, unless if you live in Los Angeles where they’re opening a third location. I’d also add a late-night place like creperie, 7th street burger, or empanada mama for that late-night nyc food experience iykwim, but it definitely isn’t compulsory.

On activities, Little Island is over rated. High Line is NOT over rated.

You should go to Governor’s Island instead of Staten Island Ferry.
