All the talk about specialty coffee and pour overs made me feel like skipping the at home brew and go to a shop yesterday. I went to Proud Mary because it’s constantly receiving high praise for its coffee program. I won’t discuss the food I just ate toast and it was fine, it’s toast.
I had the Panama Geisha washed process from Finca Hartman. After ordering they bring out some grounds so you can get a smell and make sure it’s something you might like. My first reaction was not liking the cup at all, I thought serving a hot pour over in stemless wineglass was interesting and not the best choice. For the coffee itself it was well extracted no bitter or sour notes at all and I was pleased with whoever made it. Probably the best made pour over I’ve had in town. They used an Orgiami brewer with I believe a V60 filter. As for the coffee itself it may have oxidized a little too much while being very well balanced on acidity and body it was lacking a little of the floral/fruity notes that I’ve come to expect from a Central American Geisha. I didn’t love the hustle and bustle of the cafe, but I’m still intrigued by their coffee. I’ll have to go back when they first open and it’s slower so I can see at the bar and talk with the baristas.

Big fan of their pour over

Sometimes I wish I drank coffee – seems like something really complex I could get into. So much more than just Folgers hot bean water

Obviously a very good (and expensive) pour over, but does anyone else feel they serve it luke warm? And as a small quantity? I feel like I have to drink it immediately or it gets to room temperature.

If you’re an espresso drinker, don’t miss Proud Mary. I went on Sunday and had one of the best espressos of recent memory (Brazil Sitio da Torre Natural) — so sweet, creamy and rich with a perfectly balanced acidity. Their coffee program is truly amazing!

Just so everyone knows, i think this js 8 oz of coffee for about $13 if memory serves me right.
That being said, it is the best coffee I’ve ever had lol

If you want the biggest selection of single-origin offerings, there is probably no better option in town. I definitely like sitting at the bar and chatting with them about what they have, and I only ever visit on weekdays because I know their food is a draw for weekend brunchers. It’s always been an amazing experience.
Their espresso flights are also a really great way to try different coffees next to each other and start to pick up on how they are different. Comparative tasting is always better for that than just having an espresso on its own and then trying to remember how it compares to ones you’ve had in the past.

I fell in love with Proud Mary’s!! As a coffee lover myself and amateur home roaster, it’s a coffee lover’s dream.
That being said, I have found almost every one of the pour overs less than satisfactory. Each that I’ve had have been under-extracted (to my taste) and with way too high of a water to coffee ratio (too watery). That being said, the drip was fantastic (and much cheaper). Along with the espresso, and espresso flights, which is what I would recommend.
Although the original staff (Australians) are extremely knowledgable, some of the new staff that they have hired seem less-than knowledgable about coffee (pronouncing Geisha, and Yirgacheffe wrong, for starters), and they seem to hire anyone that google search just one info video about fine coffee. That being said, everyone is extremely nice, and I’m sure they are learning quick.

This seems both pretentious and portentous. $10-15 for a coffee? Does it come with a side pint of beer? Or at least a joint? Damn.
