I’ve tried at least four times to eat at Uptown Sports Club and either can’t find a parking spot or there’s no seats open at the bar. Same deal tonight except I had an awesome curb parking spot and I didn’t want to move.

So I walked down East 6th to Licha’s Cantina. And it was great! Plenty of seats at the bar, the USA soccer match was on. BTW, Is it weird the Uptown SPORTS Club doesn’t have TVs so you can’t actually watch sports there?

Had some awesome enchiladas, the Enchiladas Potosina. Man those potatoes are top notch. This dish and the complimentary chips and salsas had all the spice I wanted and more. Too dark to take a picture at the bar but I was impressed!

This is going to sound worse than it felt but I had to ask the bar tender if they had air conditioning or if it was broken cause it was hella warm in there. He said they do have A/C but the house is so window wrapped and uninsulated that it’s impossible to compete with the heat. I felt fine but was wearing gym shorts and a T-shirt. I would not come to eat here in long pants or sleeves., you might sweat through your clothes. Other than that it’s all good!

Read that uptown sports review 2 was ago in the chronicle-you’ll feel better 😉

It’s called that because the spot that used to be there (think POLAR opposite clientele of anything that’s ever been within a mile of Aaron Franklin) was called uptown sports. I guess it seemed authentic or something to keep the name. I guarantee nobody involved with that place went to, knew of, or has any connection to uptown sports. lol

It always feels like that there when it’s hot out. The door is usually open which doesn’t help. I’d do happy hour there but that’s about it. The food is ok at best. Suerte nearby is so much better but obviously different vibe and price point.

For those that aren’t aware the owner’s of Licha’s are also the owner’s of Chapulin Cantina on South Congress where Enoteca was.

It’s true Oaxacan food. Go for happy hour for $8 you can get a marg. Also for $8 2 memelas and 2 carne enchilado tacos. Both are fantastic.

    Great staff and awesome space.

Great atmosphere, mediocre food. All in all still a staple for me because of the location and atmosphere but I usually warn visitors that the food is just okay

You’re dodging a bullet. Uptown sports club is overrated.

An actual sports bar concept would have been nice. Thanks Franklin.
