I went to the “new” Brodard for the first time a few weeks ago and was blown away. I loved going to their place behind the 99 and the big round tables and even bigger menu. Going to this new place with it’s stripped down menu and booths… it automatically gave me Portos vibes. I think probably on purpose! I was a little skeptical, but they have yelp waiting list and it was moving at a good clip, so we stayed. We saw person after person come out with packs of their amazing spring rolls and figured… well at least those should be good…

    And they were!

I was also pleased that one of my favorite dishes was still really good. The Tumeric Fish with Dill (Not under their Noodle section). There are several other places in Little Saigon to get this dish, but none that have these amazing spring rolls too.

This was somehow my first time at Brodard, after hearing about their fresh rolls forever. Even on a random Thursday, the place was packed, with a 40 minute wait for a table. However, there was no wait to sit at the bar, so I did that and had a lovely experience. Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee is the best I’ve ever had; pure dark roast chocolate milk goodness.

It is difficult to choose a favorite roll, but I liked the Vegetarian Bi Chay Cuon best. It was bursting with aromatic fresh herbs and the most impressive balance of textures and flavors I’ve ever had in a fresh roll. Every dish was a 10/10 and our bartender/waiter was really cool. This place is popular for a reason.

I love this place. Their shaken beef is incredible. Everything I’ve ever had there was amazing.

Brodard is one of the iconic socal restaurants. And incredibly influential. They practically invented the concept of pre-rolled nem nuong rolls. Before brodard, you had to made them yourself.
