Man, I *want* to try Valentina’s so bad, and I *want* to absolutely love it.
Between the early reviews of the new location and now this, though, they certainly aren’t making it easy.

Pooling tips is one thing but withholding tips for alleged infractions is some serious bullshit and that makes me think twice before I will ever go there again. Such a shame.
Lazy-Thanks8244
Yeah. That’s some bullshit.

5 to 10 minutes early is on time? kiss my ass
rgvtim
I doubt any of this is kosher. Pooled, not pooled, ect. This sounds like a business owner who has had just enough success to think they know something, when they don’t.

Aren’t places having a hard time getting workers? Why would anyone work there?
MonoBlancoATX
Sounds like they’re also stealing time from their staff.
“5 to 10 minutes early is on time” is called time theft.
Fuck Valentina’s, apparently.

Friendly reminder that Moreno’s in South Austin is IMO as good as Valentinas, and without an hour wait.
The staff is friendly and the food is great. Only drawback is the small indoor space, but the outdoor seating is great when it isn’t 105 outside.
anex_stormrider
This sounds unnecessarily complicated to be of any good to anyone except bad management

Add it to the long list of reasons I don’t go this place

This explains sooo much. Such poor judgement to even put this document out there knowing it could damage your business.

I don’t have a problem at with arriving to work a few minutes early. That’s doesn’t mean you’re working early, that just means you’ve had time to pee, get your stuff stored, etc so you can actually start your shift on time and other workers can gtfo on time. But withholding tips that you did earn while you were there? Fuck That.
Specialist_Rabbit512
As someone who worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years, this is a bunch of bullshit and highly unethical, if not illegal.
dirtyms3
WELP, guess I won’t be visiting them anymore.
Shoontzie
This is very illegal. I’m surprised the first sentence in that memo isn’t highlighted. It says “Valentinas …is not required to disperse tips to employees.” Umm… Federal law says otherwise.
“an employer cannot keep employees’ tips under any circumstances; managers and supervisors also may not keep tips received by employees, including through tip pools;”

Damn, maybe this explains some of the service issues there.
They should learn from the experience of others, maybe.

…and in fact the second sentence claims something is illegal which according to Federal law is absolutely legal.
Fuck Valentina’s, absolutely. I always wondered when stuff like this comes up if it’s illegal to post a Google review with this information inside.
Easy Tiger taking tips too.
I don’t know why people don’t snitch on these snakes.
No wonder they didn’t like working within the city limits
WOW Totally illegal.
Fuck Valentina’s. I’m never going there again.
Blow up the reviews
