When I was younger and regularly in Cedar Park there wasn’t much to stop for on Cypress Creek Road unless you were going to Cedar Park High School. So it kind of amazes me to see so many restaurants down that road just west of old 183.
It’s taken me a while to make my way back to where Levant Cafe & Grill is, glad I finally did. As a lover of Mediterranean food their restaurant steered me away from the Ramen 512 and Jet’s Pizza that share the Randall’s shopping center.
Levant represents a lot of territory with it’s menu: Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, etc. The guy behind the counter was eager to give me a rundown of all their options. Many of the sides and dips you can choose from a deli style display.
My first-visit favorite is the Jalapeño Hummus. Adding the spicy pepper makes a good thing better. Had the chicken Shawarma, which felt like it needed to be warmer and could use a just a little crisp. Also had the Syrian Moussaka, which was a miss for me. I’m spoiled by the much better Moussaka at Peace Bakery & Deli. Levant’s was cold, I believe intentionally and traditionally, I’d just choose something else the next time.
I don’t usually buy soft drinks but was curious about a no-sugar added beet drink they have. Man, it’s a strong full-beet flavor beverage. I didn’t drink more than a cup but I appreciate the nutritious option. I tried six different fountain drinks including some really delicious Stubborn sodas. Loved the cherry tarragon soda, wow!
Also appreciate the options of Pita, Palestinian Mhammara Bread and Jordanian Zaatar Bread.
I paid $20 + TT for the Shawarma plate w/ two sides, bread and drink.
Like I said, I’m spoiled by the great food at Peace Bakery & Deli, it’s my go to neighborhood spot and it’s still the Mediterranean standard for me. I’m sure I’d make Levant a regular stop if I lived around to corner.
