In this video, I take you on a garden tour to show you what vegetables and other foods are growing in our 54 raised garden beds on our small acreage self-sufficient property.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

G'day Everyone, preserving any excess harvest of homegrown chemical-free fruit and veg is important and smart. If you are interested, the link to the Harvest Right freeze dryer mentioned in the video is https://affiliates.harvestright.com/1099.html they are a very good made-in-the-USA machine! Anyway, thanks again for all your support and make sure you "get into it…" Cheers, :)👍
Male Dysmorphia patients are still being sponsored for Poop Bags (Colonoscopy Bags) and paid Nurses/Attendants via our states/health care companies in Fred Meyer, Shoreline, WA and other places. So, you're holding on one front while losing ground on many, many others. Great job!
How come, you don't get possums raiding your garden???
I really want to know..😮
Hello Bella. You're a beautiful girl.
Beautiful garden, great video
I love it
Loved this so much. So glad little Bella has you all.
Always love your videos, Mark. It's funny hearing an Australian trying to speak Spanish. Ollas are Mexican, I think, and it is pronounced "oiya". Good idea to use them here in hot Texas, too.
I have been trying to find water chestnut 'seeds' for a while..the ones I've run across here in the US are either for crafts or have horrible reviews.
I'm stoked that you've got some going.
What.. no carrots or did I blink?
~scratches Bella through the screen~
Celebrating Appalachia calls the little tomatoes – Tommy Toes. She loves to eat them in the garden.
Bella is adorable and I was enjoy and learn from your videos! I will share something I read once.
#Dogs come into out lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog. It merely expands the heart.”
I gave you a huge thumbs up 👍 beautiful garden you have and what a lovely dog.
What a sweet, new friend!! I'm SO GLAD you guy's have her. Definitely true, having a puppy is like having another child 😂. Really the best of both world's for your in-laws. They still get to see Bella and also know she has a great new home with people that will love her. I hope your father in law is not hurt from the fall. The garden looks wonderful!! About another month we will be going into fall and you will have spring. I love to see your garden growing and thriving while ours are dormant. You give us something to look forward to!! Have a lovely day.
The winter garden is fantastic. I want to share that I appreciated your words so much about your loss of Scooter because I will soon be faced with the loss of my aging companion cat whom I love and adore so much. Is it too soon for Bella? No way is it too soon!! All animals need loving and safe homes so they can be loved and taken care of, so it is a blessing that she has you and your wife and you now have her.
Remember you eat the nasturtium flowers they make a good garnish in the salad!
What a great garden and food security. Bella is a doll.
Yay. I hope to see lots of Bella in future videos, she's gorgeous…. and will help the family heal after the passing of Scooter. ❤
Love everything about this! Thank you for always sharing with us!
Hi Mark!
I can’t wait to see if that cherry tree of your fruits, I’ll be very interested in that, as my husband and I are about to build a new house just north of Beaudesert, and I’m hoping to be able to grow lots of fruit trees, a cherry would be a dream come true! Do you have any plums? I’d really love a green gage plum, but they seem to have high chill hours too.
Your new baby Bella is so sweet! I’m sure that Scooter had a paw in getting her to you to help heal your hearts. He knew how beloved he was and he wanted you to give another dog the love he left behind❤️ We lost our girl in 2018, and it’s been tough, but I think I’m ready to love another doggo.
Your garden is absolutely luscious! Bella is so cute! I understand your concern getting a pup after your beloved Scooter recently passed. But things happen for a reason so Bella was meant to belong to you and your wife. Plus your in laws can come visit Bella anytime they want.
Bella is gorgeous, she found her right owners. You will have so much pleasure with you and you with her.
Being here in Canada, where ZIP grows in our winter, I am soooo jealous of your garden. Bella was meant to be with you, and she is a cute puppy that will enjoy the garden.
What a fantastic garden! I sure wish I had the means to have something similar. Love to see what you're growing!
Hey Mark! Zanna from central Texas here. Have you ever grown Egyptian, or Walking Onions? I plan to try them this fall. Keep you posted! Z
I wish I had your life! Not an option in Ohio USA. I so enjoy watching what you do!
Hi Bella! It's very nice to meet you!
Mark: No carrots?! Question: What type of strawberries do you grow?
ty for the tour… glad you got a new Mop I mean puppy she is cute ..just had to put are cat down after 24 years and yes they are you kids god bless and keep it up ty for the vids
A puppy!! ❤ So glad she could provide love to you all.
And LOVE the wild garden! That climate is such a blessing.
I got so excited to see a nice long garden tour…. And then you showed Bella 😍😍😍 don’t think I actually watched the video just waited for more shmuppy shots!!!! I’ll try to pay attention rewatching now haha
She is gorgeous!!!!
Its been my personal experience everytine we as a family or myself as a younger single man , when a dog passes on we all say its too soon or agree a waiting period is necessary. Then almost magically or by some force of nature , coincidence possibly a new dog comes along and for myself and i believe some if not all would agree its exactly whats needed .
Thank you so much for sharing this video and I miss my garden! Live in town now!and it's a blessing to have a garden!
Gday Mark, loving the videos, i just planted some of those cherry trees also. Im in warm temperate though. I got the Minnie Royal and Royal Lee, just to check did you get the Royal Lee also for pollinator? Would hate for you to go to all that trouble and years and not have a pollinator which you need 🙂
I was under the impression that worms don't like citrus or onion. Maybe l am wrong
Would love to have just a third of the beds you have
Mark, your videos are wonderful. Enjoyed the tour. So many types of plants we are looking forward to growing. Regarding your new puppy, we have had many pets over the years. Provided an excellent home with great love. When one of our pets passes away, we adopt another one. We don't wait long because we know we too have vacancies. Your inlaws are fortunate that you gave thier little darling a home. Fun videos ahead. Thank you for all you do.
Gorgeous Bella, welcome sweetheart ❤❤
Do you get chemical trails thrown at your garden from an airplane?
Garden looks amazing. Have a great week.
Our winter garden, is frosted, cauliflower destroyed, but the side sprouting purple broccoli are the hit, and are not effected by the frosts.
Having the new puppy will help fill the empty space left by your beloved dog. But won't replace him. U will still grieve but still have love to give her!
