Browsed the SushiYa station at the HEB in Lakeway and saw Onigiri for the first time.
The chef said they started selling it Wednesday. I got the spicy salmon. Pretty basic stuff, just sushi rice and a little spicy salmon filling for $4.

I had never seen Onigiri anywhere here until last week. I went to a Japanese cafe called Sugar Pine on Research that features it.

So twice in a week and just discovered there in an Onigiri ๐Ÿ™ emojiโ—๏ธ

Hanyang Market on N Lamar sometimes has onigiri. Theirs is wrapped in nori and they have bulgogi and spicy bulgogi options.

Cool find. Asahi Imports also has really good onigiri in a lot of varieties that they make fresh, most of the time you can see the workers making them behind the counter. Definitely check them out if youโ€™re an onigiri fan

    Bitter sweet to see this.

My Thanh Market, Hmart, hana world, asahi, snow ball rice ball, etc. One day hopefully, mainstream will be people more comfortable if just walking up into these “exotic” stores and just giving the real thing a try instead of a water down version that an American store introduces.

    This goes for every cuisine.

Had a bite of a one yesterday from an HEB in San Marcos. It was ok, on par with the rest of the SushiYa selection.

Kinda sad that these arenโ€™t wrapped in seaweed, but glad to see American grocery stores expand their Asian food options. I hope this means more people will search out the local Asian places to try new cuisines from this.

I love picking up some onigiri from Asahi (which is one of the better ones since they make them fresh). Thereโ€™s the ones that I see at MT/Hmart that are ok but def sit out for a bit

If only 7-Elevens (now owned by a Japanese Corporation) would carry all the amazing prepared snacks like in Japan. Onigiri, Bao, pony kegs of Kirin, etc.

This in chinese 7-11 would be like 4 rmb

Not to big on the nori wraps that places use. I may give the H-E-B ones a try.

    That’s so cool!
Allergens and loyalty will keep me going to Asahi instead though!

  10. I’ve seen Pokemon. I know those are donuts.

Snowball Riceball in the Crescent also sells them, a ton of variety and all are delicious! Make sure you save room for a snowball after the riceball โค๏ธ
