Man, haven’t had Pioneer in over 40 years and it still looks the same. I have to make a trip out there.

Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
    By the Pioneer Chicken stand

I grew up on Pioneer Chicken and spicy rice.

nice they put it in paper. the ela one puts it in styrofoam and the chicken gets soggy really fast.

Thanks for the reminder, Op! I always forget there is one down in central LA county as well. How much was a 12(?) piece these days?

What’s with the sudden rise of Pioneer Chicken. I grew up on ELA/BH and haven’t met a single person who liked Pioneer Chicken. I was surprised it was still in business all these years but I guess people love it. I tried it a few weeks ago to see if anything has changed since I tried it as a kid but it was still just as bland as I remembered it. The fish was good but the chicken needs more seasoning IMO

Back in the day, we called this American Chicken Tempura. It was made with orange batter.

Holy shit they still exist) I think they had some dirty rice but it was spicy but fire. Just remember as a kid.

Get the gizzards there, if you’re into that kind of thing. I’ve only ever had the Korean drinking food kind, and deep fried in that batter with some hot sauce is WAY better.

LOVED Pioneer Chicken! None left here in Northern California. Oh, that delicious orange crust! Soooo good! Next time I’m in LA, I’m skipping my usual SoCal go-to (King Taco) and heading for Pioneer

now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while, they had one in Canoga Park on the corner of Roscoe and DeSoto but it’s a Popeye’s now
