I’ll be in LA for 10 days. Staying around DTLA. Looking for an excellent non-omakase experience since I’ll be with my 2 young children.
Something Japanese owned similar to [Sushi Sam’s Edomata](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ajdbEGwDHGmSJHK2A?g_st=ic) in the Bay Area.
I’ve tried Sushi Gen in the past. While good, I consider Sam’s to be superior in quality.
I am gonna try [Sakae Sushi](https://maps.app.goo.gl/7rLpNuJmgA4XGh3PA?g_st=ic) in Gardena.
Any recs? Bonus points for mackerel bou sushi recs.

Ichijuku Sushi in Highland Park, big parking lot in back
Aizen Udon is Japanese owned. It’s primarily udon (as the name suggests) but has fantastic and very generous sashimi and rolls. They house make every ingredient with an emphasis on quality dashi broth.
You are probably particularly interested in their regular shipments of rare fish types for limited sashimi runs. Last time, we got this excellent fish that I can’t recall the name of, but it had this stunning dark brown flesh and deeply oily texture without any fishiness. Great uni, too.
Went with a group with a couple of kids in tow and they accommodated with high chairs and so on just fine. Kids’ menu is iirc small udon, some fish options, some rice options.
Momi Sushi is great quality and absolutely no frills
OMG Sushi Sam’s was my jam growing up
