I drove by this Monday and wondered what was going on. You beat me there! I thought is was part of the Asian restaurant that’s behind it. I’m close enough to walk over so I’ll be there soon.

I got the skewers tonight after an event at the hotel behind it. 3 for $10, they were out of chicken so I got beef. Loved the spice 🔥!

No. 1 notice on the menu is no tips.

The stand is called Remember the Alamo Uyghur Skewers. It opened this week and the guy who runs it is Diego. He said he immigrated here from China because of the racial oppression against his restaurant. He said the police in his town would not allow him to employ people with certain last names and it kept him from running his business.

He read about the Alamo and wanted to take a stand for freedom so he came to Texas to sell skewers. He’s renting the sidewalk in front of Look Noodles and said he plans to have a food truck there next.

He said he saw the post with the picture of him on Reddit and is very excited! Good luck Diego! 🫡🥩

Bit of background for those that don’t know… Uyghurs are a Muslim Turkic people in Xinjiang, China. While China recognizes Uyghurs as the native people of Xinjiang, the Chinese government has been basically committing cultural genocide there. Uyghurs have been imprisoned just for speaking Uyghur in public. The government has been suppressing Uyghur culture and identity for about 10 years now. I’m glad Diego is safe and doing what he can to keep his culture alive, even if it’s here in Austin. I can’t wait to try his food!
