What are your top 5 street food places in NYC that are a bit underrated? I’ve heard great things about the Halal Guys, but their quality degraded recently on the basis of some negative reviews that said they serve harder pieces of meat in their gyro platter. Some quick alternatives please!

Most mornings there is a woman at the NE corner of 4th Av and 9th St in Brooklyn that sells rather unique tamales. Her Oaxaqueño tamales are made in banana leaves. Two for $5.
Cheong Fun Cart in Chinatown. Two aunties peddling noodles out of their cart. Best $4 you’ll ever spend
I really like tony dragons grille on e62 and Madison ave. Really great Greek food, right near Central Park.
It’s not underrated, but the skewer cart by Grand St station.
Franky’s souvlaki and king souvlaki in Astoria are both fantastic
Birrialandia in jackson heights is great too – expect a long wait
In Sunnyside I’ve been enjoying tacos sin tequila! souk el shater and halal munchies are not trucks/carts but they are affordable, quick, and delicious
I like Sammy’s halal and Pasha’s halal, but I think they are adequately rated
Anyone know what happened to the grilled skewer guy who was planted on Forsyth and East Broadway (or maybe Division St.) near the base of the Manhattan Bridge? I walked by there last week and he’s no longer there …
I don’t know if it’s underrated, but it’s far enough out of the way that it’s not as widely known as it should be: the piroshki vendor in Brighton Beach. Basically an Eastern European version of an empanada. So delicious.
Another out-of-the-way one — the halal cart on 86th and 5th Ave in Bay Ridge. Comparable to the Halal Guys in their heyday.
Kwik meal on 45th & 6th. Get the lamb and rice. It’s real full-muscle cuts of lamb, and they have real tzatziki rather than mayonnaise white-sauce.
Adel’s halal cart at 49th & 6th. Open 6pm – 4am. Insane line at any time, but do it at least once.
Shout out to the Zongzi Lady at Grand and Christie. One dedicated person with some great tasting Chinese rice pockets (for lack of better description of what they are).
Jerk chicken spots in Bedstuy were banging. There was a dude on Tompkins and Fulton that I loved. Think he moved spots, close by though
Does anyone have any Indian food cart recommendations?
Mahmoud’s Corner Halal Food Cart
go to the Halal Guys shop at east 14th on 2nd ave, its way better than the stall by Rockfeller Center
