Been on my radar for quite some time but the reservation only + deposit was largely a no go for me. Friend was in from out of town and grabbed a reservation as a surprise.
We did the standard omakase + two additional bites at the end. Did not do the wine/sake pairing but instead opted for a fantastic 2018 Keplinger. I’m not a sake person at all so can’t comment on the sake pairings but the “premium” wine pairings were not enticing (or seemed worth the upcharge) much at all.
That said, this is easily one of the better omakase meals I’ve had in quite some time. A spell under Tatsu out of Dallas but I’d come here again easily over any other Austin spot.
But if you never feel like omakase is a good option when it comes to price vs actual meal, I don’t think this will change your mind.
Only complaint I have is that the waiting area and dining area are rather dark. Good cocktail while we were waiting tho. Was not told what it is but it was similar to a Paper Plane.
I’d go again. I went with a friend and am somewhat obligated to take my better half now.

I find the extra bites up sale to be really tacky. When I went they shamed a couple who said no to them due to the cost. The couple saved up for their 10 year anniversary and it was probably the most expensive meal they ever had and it was already a stretch for them (we met them waiting to go in).
While I had no problem with the cost, it was a huge turn off and ruined my whole meal how they treated the couple with the comments of “come on everyone else is doing it, it’s once in a life time.” I really wish I would have said something to the staff, it was really used car salesman of Sushi Bar. It also made me think of the upscale at the beginning too, they were equally as pushy (I didn’t notice it because I was excited for the meal).
I won’t return just for that. I haven’t been to Pasta Bar for the same reason.
