Loquat has been on my radar since they’ve opened but never wanted to go out of my way just for some coffee, so with Shin’s opening right next door I finally decided to make the trip.
Loquat: If you are a specialty coffee nerd this is the place to go. I ordered a latte w/ their house made vanilla bean syrup, mascarpone (their take on a tiramisu latte), and a shot of their anaerobic gesha espresso (not pictured). The mascarpone is easily the best specialty drink I’ve had from a third wave shop! That mascarpone cream was light and silky and the cacao powder was so delicious when mixed into the drink. The absolute best third wave shop I’ve been to, if they were located in a better area I would visit very often. For anyone planning on visiting get ready to have a bad time finding parking and having to leave immediately after finishing your coffee because there isn’t shit to do in the area. 9/10 the shot of gesha seemed slightly under extracted which makes me hold off on giving a perfect 10.
Shin’s: Went into Shin’s blindly since they barely opened on 8/15 and didn’t really see many reviews on the place but decided to visit since it was right next door. The customer service was very awkward and I waited a little over 10 minutes just for 3 slices to be heated up keep in mind I was the only one there. I got a slice of their cheese, pepperoni, and white all of them being incredibly disappointing. I felt like all of the slices tasted so cheap and the white pizza was hard and dry. 5/10 I would easily take a slice of pizza hut over this place.

Is that a fuckin slice of ham on that pizza?

That pizza looks like it was lazily waved in the direction of the idea of toppings.

Really loved the white and mortadella pizza at Shin’s. To each their own

Damn I’ve been excited to check our shins, but that pizza looks terrible. Where’s the melty, cheesy goodness on those slices!?

Had that mascarpone latte and holy crap is it delicious. But it’s a once a month kinda drink for me.

i live walking distance from this block of stores. the neighborhood is gentrifying for real.
Barra santos (found oyster ppl) is right next door and is quite popular. i enjoy it but man it’s kinda pricey

I live up the block from loquat and agree it’s super good but don’t sleep on cafe 1802 across the street! It’s funny to see the difference in clientele.
1802: long time locals / families. Loquat: hipsters with cool pants.
Next time u come to a line out the door at loquat and your in a rush, get ur coffee and a bagel at 1802!
Barra Santos is delicious but it’s expensive. For example one of their $20 plates is just a 1/4 dark chicken, nothing else…Yikes. Shins was to counter with cheap slices. Soft opening came and I was disappointed. $4+ for a slice of pepperoni that maybe had 2 pepperoni’s on it, are you kidding me?!
no ones gonna go out of their way to drive to here with better pizza options not too far and don’t see the locals becoming regulars cuz slices are not worth the price at all.
