What the hell actually happened here? Like I’ve read the article linked below and I’m still extremely confused how within the space of a year Russian House/The House went from closing their amazing and popular 5th street restaurant due to downtown developer shenanigans, promising to re-open, their re-opening as ATX Grill on Airport, then suddenly throwing in the towel and giving over the space to Rose Gose.
Russian House was one of my favorite downtown hangouts for years. I was practically a regular back in my post-divorce oat-sowing days back around 2015-2016. They vowed to re-open back last summer of 2022, and when they announced ATX Grill, I was excited to come back. However, the one time I was there shortly after their opening, I was simply extremely confused about their Euro-BBQ fusion format and was extremely disappointed with the lack of the actual Russian/central Asian cuisine of theirs I so loved… and consequently never went back. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who was upset, but damn, they hardly gave it 4 months before they suddenly and inexplicably gave up and this Rose Gose thing showed up (yes, I realize Rose Gose are completely different owners).
Can someone give me some insider insight into just what the hell actually happened?

I had heard, may not be true, part of it was due to the name “Russian” and getting hate for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Seems plausible, there was a ton of nastiness for a few days across the whole US with Russian places completely unrelated getting attacked.
I mean, I think your post explains what happened. And the RH owners moved to New York.
Sad, although I never heard great things about the food itself the atmosphere drinks and quality of coffee were amazing, best matcha I’ve ever found oddly enough, their giant selection of infused liquor behind the bar was badass too…
We went to the Russian House for several great date nights pre covid. Lots of food and dancing.
I am not happy about it closing.
I’m confused as to why the article is associating Rosé Gosé with Russia House if it has totally different owners, is in a different location, and does not serve Russian food. Rosé Gosé is a fun place with good food but no distinctly Russian vibes.
