Just as things started to open back up after COVID, my friends and I got tipsy at the dog park in our complex and decided to walk down to the gas station at the corner to get tacos from the truck outside. When we got there, we discovered that a new truck had parked next to the taco truck serving Syrian shawarma. We abandoned our taco plans and talked to the guys in the truck. He brought us free falafel while we waited for our chicken shawarma tortas. He also gave us free fries and brought us toum with pomegranate syrup with our shawarma. We got beers from the gas station and sat at a wooden picnic table with a plastic tablecloth stapled to it. They strung cute little lights in the trees and it certainly didn’t feel like a gas station parking lot anymore.
The truck is Bu’Jadoh and they’re still in the same parking lot. Their shawarma is served on Syrian bread now (which is a much better proportion IMO). They also have rice bowls now.
