Love to see this! Edgar and Sara deserve all the support they can get.

Yay! When you do good and help the community, people will always give it back three-fold. They seem like great people!

First, I’ll say that people can do whatever they want with their money. But I do think it’s wild that a for-profit business is asking for donations to keep their business running. Just very odd to me that they did this and that 80k was raised in one day.

edit: For some reason, someone took it upon themselves to report me to redditcares…? FYI, I’m great and I enjoy my life and can’t wait to spend a stupid amount of hours playing Starfield starting next week. So yeah.

in a non-austin community my dad and I bought a run down property. It cost us 10k just to get services brought up enough to use the facility for storing car parts. Not feeding people, not allowing the public in. We got approval from the city. If they came back a while later and decided they were going to have another hack at it we’d be done. And the city will do that, for whatever shady reason the decide… close the property, “eminent domain”, send the fire department to condemn it. All of austin government is in the bag for developers right now. That same city pulled the same shit with a restaurant my family loved and had been functioning for 20-40 years (as long as I can remember anyway). The cost was more than they could ever afford and they just called it retirement.

To Vicious Womprat, a response since you probably bitched out: No. Just one of the employees they are trying to take care of while someone just wants to piss on their efforts cause of some personal code I suppose.

They got help from their people. OMG…Scandal.

So, what is the best option, in your grand opinion?

Government…no, not smart. After all, a simple fix is needed & that won’t happen. Plus, given your stance on people giving money, I’m sure you’ll go apoplectic if they took taxable funds for themselves.

You seem like a very “Pull yourself by the bootstraps” type of guy. Which is cool…though seems like a very particular type of person seems to harp on that.

Hmm…what else? Why not do something else? Like a bake sale? Oh wait…that might require space, supplies, people & that requires money…which they can’t get cause they can’t work.

So in summation, you can be free to say whatever you want. And thanks to some campaign finance laws, the courts recognize monies given to campaigns as free speech. So, they have free speech as much as you do. Except they accomplish their goals & you are being a silly billy on a fucking reddit post. On a friday. At this point, I would hit you up with shouldn’t you be doing something better with your time but know you might do the same to which I would respond I would be if my place of work wasn’t shut down by some permit bs…or you can just read the gofundme description.

But given your views & general attitude, you’ve never been there, will never go there & just seem to want to whine/bitch/moan while a fan favorite is trying their best to weather some unexpected troubles.

But yeah…just some random dude trying to pick a fight against a comment *checks notes* bitching how they met a fundraising goal with literally everyone prior to & afterwards commenting happy they did it & so quickly.

  6. I tried Nixta and thought the food was delicious and prepared with such great care. The whole experience (staff, garden, narrative, vibe) was fantastic despite being hotter’n hell outside. Highly recommend visiting and donating if you’re inclined. It felt special in a way this town has made me feel many times before over the years.

This is the craziest thing I’ve heard lately. So basically, don’t get loans to avoid loan payments but just ask for donations. WOW!!!! And I thought asking for 30% tip was insane, but here we are, a new trend for zero responsibility to investors etc. Props to them.

Cool, why do we need another post about this?

I wish Nixta all the best (fan of the food and the owners) but I’m not going to fund a for-profit business when there are people suffering in Maui among all the other places, #firstworldpriorities. I believe the City should help them out, perhaps assist with a payment deferral plan, loan, heck throw in a small grant (Elevate Austin grants are happening right now albeit it’s too late to apply), but it’s a bit daft to be donating to gfm in this instance. To each their own and all that, it’s your money, or gentrifiers’ money, in this case.

The first time I went to Nixta, everything in terms of the atmosphere reminded me of a roadside stand in Mexico, and I’ve been to a million such places having traveled to every state in Mexico. The prices and food are standout for sure, but the building is a piece of crap and run down AF, it was only a matter of time.
