Every burrito I’ve seen at a Mexican restaurant/taco truck so far has been a Mission-esque burrito with lots of rice + lettuce. The Mexican population in NYC is mostly from Southern Mexico (where burritos are not much of a thing), so it seems that they just put burritos on the menu as a filler item for gringos (which can still be very good).
After watching many burrito videos from Mexico, I’m very curious to know if there’s even one spot where I can get a proper Norteño style burrito.
They come in different varieties, but here are some examples.
Chihuahua style:

And the Sonora style Burro Percheron:

I know this is a long shot!

Hope to see some good answers here. I’ve been on the same hunt myself for years, but haven’t really found anything.

I don’t think there was really even a good place to get a Mission style burrito until Super Burrito opened like last year?
Bonus points for machacas
Electric burrito in st marks
Following! Northern style is pretty hard to come by here. Lettuce in a burrito should be outlawed.
Closest I find is a Chimichanga, which I think is Sonoran. Or if you find a good taqueria, order burrito without rice or lettuce.
There is a new place opening in Astoria called ayy chihuahua, I wonder if they might have it. Apparently the owners are from that part of Mexico and have a different restaurant in sunnyside
I’m on a mission to find a good burrito and it’s weirdly hard in nyc! The best I’ve had is at el mariachi in Washington heights but I don’t think it’s the type you’re looking for. Following for other recs
