I remember when the Food Building at the CNE used to be amazing. Food companies giving out tons of free samples (when I was a kid one year I got four free full sized candy bars, I was in heaven), cool international foods years before they were widely available elsewhere, and actual *good* carnival food (tiny toms donuts, waffle ice cream sandwiches, peameal bacon on a bun, pirogies, schnitzel sandwiches, Belgian fries). Then the chain restaurants started taking over the stalls and everything turned to overpriced, overcomplicated shit. I’d take something from the 99c garlic bread and spaghetti booth over these expensive abominations any day (but I’m sure that place doesn’t exist anymore either). Excellent post OP, this food is actually stupid enough to make me yearn for the Ex food of my childhood, I am suitably upset.
