Schlossböckelheimer Felsenberg 2018 Riesling Spätlese: This is a late release from Dönnhoff that was just brought to the market a few months ago. And the few years of ripeness already make this such a treat and arguably one of the best Spätlesen I’ve ever had. On the nose this wine sings of bright white blossoms, but also honey, yuzu and bitter oranges. On the tongue there is a nice grip, mouthwatering acidity in perfect balance with the multilayered sweetness of passion fruit, and mostly bitter oranges and candied oranges. A touch of yuzu is also to be found. It goes without saying that this bottle was too good not to be finished by two people that evening. And I learned a lesson after opening a Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck 2021 Spätlese way too young. It was very closed up and not accessible yet. From now on I’ll open some slightly aged Spätlesen to enjoy them at their full potential. Cheers!
