    02 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet

The color was as shimmering yellow as yellow gold can be.

The nose was an evolution of oaky butter that transitioned to lemon rinds accented by sesames over time.

The palate started with notes of mild butter popcorn, bright lemon zests and a bubbly minerality that dances on the tongue and seemingly ‘pops’ when you swallow – leaving an oaky coating on the palate – signature Leflaive.

Time only brought more balance; introducing hints of sweet plums, some flinty funk, wet ocean stone and marmalade.

There was an inherent tartness and crunch to it, as if biting into the crust of a key lime pie – or sucking on a tab of lemon-flavored Airborne.

As with many Chevaliers, its character borderlines almost phantom like. Unlike a Batard’s broad punch of flavors. The notes in this bottle come in elegant waves, though not at all reserved by any means. Just a difference in delivery to a Batard.

Every sip brought an extra dimension to our Washoku-predominant dinner – and the wine proved to be very versatile over a variety of dishes.

Congrats on dodging the Ox-moster. When Leflaive Chevy is on, its ethereal. I prefer it to Montrachet and Batard every time.
