Kind of looks like it separated or curdled a little. Did it look like this when you frosted it?

No tips but I LOVE your giant sprinkles!! What a cheerful cake!

Is this chocolate buttercream? If so do you add any milk or cream to it? Adding liquid to buttercream can do this.

Did it look like this right when you made it or did you refrigerate before frosting? If it looked like this right away, was the butter still cold/cool? I’m asking because this sort of texture has happened to me when the butter was too cold. After softening it completely and fully incorporating the sugar, it tends to become a lot smoother.

After mixing it all in, turn the speed up to medium and mix it until lighter and fluffy. That should fix the consistency. You can always add a pinch of baking soda too to counteract the cocoas acidity

Looks like it separated.

I’ve had separation like this before but far far worse. I think you’re cake still looks great and is presentable for sure. Looks delicious

I’m not sure what’s in this frosting but when I do buttercreams and it looks like this… I’ll typically take out 1/4th in a separate bowl, microwave it in 15 second increments until it’s melted but not hot, and then mix it back in for a few mins on a low speed.
That always gives me the smoothest frosting that’s super easy to work with.

You can pop the buttercream back in the bowl and use a paddle. Get yourself a kitchen torch on Amazon, and use it to warm the bowl while beating the frosting on medium. It’ll start to melt and reincorporate the cream until it’s smooth. I also find adding a drizzle of melted chocolate to cocoa frosting helps stabilize it.

I have no idea but I would still tear through that cake.

I had this problem w chocolate frosting, and immersion blending it helps!!! Also using a hot spatula to smooth, after you’ve blended it.

It’s too far away from me….

I don’t like sprinkles ever since I bit into one and my gum started bleeding 😭

A little curdled and others have the right fix, but tbqh this looks amazing, absolutely perfect and those paper smooth frostings are not worth tearing your hair out to achieve.
In the end, your cake is super lovely and I bet it tastes amazing. I also love your giant sprinkles.

It separated a bit, but you can add more sprinkles hehe

I dunno, but you should remake it and send this one to me for “analysis.”
