I’m from an Italian family (born in Italy) who grew up in the North East – if that makes me any sort of expert. One thing that no one seems to talk about with this sandwich (that this article finally touches on) is the bread. They’re the only people around putting this on semolina bread (although calling it “Italian bread” is dumb as shit). Is Little Deli’s good? Sure. But if they took the ingredients of that sandwich and put it on better semolina bread it’d be contender for best in the city.
Semolina bread is everywhere in the North East and it’s ONLY here at Home Slice.

I’ve had Home Slice’s Italian sandwich and IMNSHO, while it’s good, it still can’t hold a candle to Tucci’s Southside Subs’ spicy Italian sandwich. The bread is better, the ingredients are better.

The sub is great and better than Jersey Mike’s #13 but I felt ripped off after paying 1.75 for cherry peppers, 4.00 for a bottle of soda, and 3.00 for a small bag of chips with the helpful up-sell from the waitress. By the time I got out of there with a tip, I’d spent 32.76 for a sub. While there was a great ambiance to go with the location, I’d take the Jersey Mike combo deal for value overall. Who expects to pay 10.00 for the “extras” that go with a typical sub?

Awesome sammie. Pretty good bread but the best bread in town for an Italian sub is at Baldanuccis.
