Pastitsio – Pasta and minced beef in layers, topped with a Béchamel sauce

Pastitsio is the only comfort food that can rival Mousaka in the hearts of the Greeks! A delicious Sunday dinner that consists of pasta as a base, minced beef as a filling, and topped with a Béchamel sauce. Don’t miss out on this recipe which some call the Greek lasagna! Pastitsio is pronounced in Greek: Pash – tee – chee -oh

✔ Ingredients: (for a big baking tray)

Ingredients for the Pasta:
◾ 500g Bucatini pasta No2 or Barilla No9
◾ 1 Tbsp olive oil
◾ 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
◾ 2 pinch of Salt
◾ 80g grated cheese Kefaloturi or Kaseri (or any cheese of your choice) to sprinkle on top.

Ingredients for the minced beef filling:
◾ 1k and 200g minced beef (Flank)
◾ 500g concentrated tomato juice
◾ 70g tomato paste
◾ 2 Big fresh tomatoes grated
◾ 2 onions finely chopped
◾ 1 green bell pepper cut in cubes
◾ 1 red horn pepper cut in cubes* (replace it with one more green bell pepper if you don’t have)
◾ 1 tsp honey (optional)
◾ 1/3 tsp cinnamon
◾ 4 Tbsp olive oil
◾ 80g grated cheese Kefaloturi or Kaseri (or any cheese of your choice) to sprinkle on top.
◾ Black pepper (at the start) and Salt to taste (at the end)

Ingredients for the Bechamel:
◾ 200g Butter, unsalted
◾ 200g All-purpose flour (1 cup)
2 Tbsp Cornstarch
◾ 80g grated cheese Kefaloturi or Kaseri (or any cheese of your choice) to sprinkle on top.
◾ 4 egg yolks
◾ 1,8L milk
◾ 1/3 tsp Nutmeg, grated
◾ 1/3 tsp Cinnamon
◾ 1 pinch of Salt

Christina, I'm a huge fan of Moussaka and Lasagne, so this recipe had my mouth watering almost before I started watching you preparing the dish.😁My problem is I'm trying to lose some Lockdown weight, so I'm going to have to do a lot more hiking to earn my Pastitsio…or maybe I need the Pastitsio to give me the energy for the hike, lol!👌👍😋

  8. Je vais faire cette recette seulement c'est dommage qu'il ne marque pas un liste avec les ingrédients pour nous faciliter le travail et je ne vois pas les températures de cuissons ce qui pose un problème pour une personne qui n'est pas un professionnel en cuisine comme moi .

  9. Nice recipe overall, but you do make some mistakes. First of all you add the cinammon way too early in the sauce and the paste is too much. But the most serious of all is the amount of the flour. How much do you use? A cup or 200 grams? Because a cup of flour is 120 grams and so 200 grams of flour is a little less than two cups.
    But I love that you add fat to the pasta, as fatless pasta is bland. No matter how nice the sause is or what the Italians or the cooks say.

  11. 5:25 you want to cook the butter/flour mixture until it starts to smell like cookie dough or pie crust. If you don't, it will taste like flour.
