The usual things I get in my groceries from lidl (related to chicken) are, chicken nuggets 2 packets, wings 3 packets, thighs 2 packets/thigh with bone 3 packets, minced chicken 1 packet. I don’t always get all of these but interchange them according to preference. Don’t buy breast because don’t like it that much. I like to analyze and save money on groceries manage pantry as a hobby, if possible I wanted to save money on chicken. The usual prices are roughly nuggets-€4 wings-€2.5 thigh-€6 thigh with bone-€4 minced-€4.5 breast-€7-8 per packet of each. The bones from the wings or drumsticks I’ve recently started to make broth out of them. Tried using discarded parts of vegetables but the broth was kinda smelly so not gonna do that again. So this time I got a whole chicken for the first time ever and broke it down myself. Didn’t have carving knife just usual big kitchen knife. I thought I’d share what I found out in the process.

Breast 489g ( usually €7)

The usual recipes I make from chicken are butter chicken from thighs, wings in oven, tandoori chicken with drums, broth from bones, momos from minced, chicken thighs with bones in oven, nuggets are readymade already, makes enough meals for four people
From this whole chicken I pryed as much meat from the bones as I could, chopped in small pieces as much as I could to use as substitute for minced chicken since I don’t have food processor. I haven’t decided how I’m going to use the breast, either mix it with thigh and use in butter chicken or chop it down for momos. I’ll save up until I get enough peices of drums like until 6-7 peices to make tandoori chicken. Anyway in conclusion I think I got until three or four meals out of a chicken for €4.5 which was superb! I think with two whole chicken of around €10 would substitute 2 packets of €4-5 minced chicken, 2 packets of €6 thigh plus broth plus chicken for chicken salad plus skin for my dog and more :3 Happy with the outcomes!!!
