My step-mom is hiring me to clean her pantry. These apricots are from 2011. Should I just toss them?

Absolutely yes. Or compost them if you don’t like trashing food. If there are domestic animals that may get to your compost, heat the contents to 185 for 10 minutes before composting to denature any pathogens. Jars are still good but will require a thorough cleaning. Do not reuse lids.

  3. Pop one open and take a big smell. You (and she) will know really quick. Me, I’d toss them, 12 years is a long time.

I am not afraid of eating old food if it looks good and passes my personal checklist. This however doesn’t pass my visual inspection. And with the band still on it there’s no telling it it ever broke it’s seal before. I would personally toss this.
