  1. You requested this one after I showed a glimpse of it during the New York deli coleslaw video:https://youtu.be/lI7k1yewQc4 so here it is. Often the cucumber skins will be removed and the slices or chunks are thicker. Regardless of the shape, the flavor of this salad is spot on. The ingredients are in the written description. As always, thanks for liking and sharing our videos.

  2. James, thank you 👍🏻. I made your NY cucumber salad yesterday I cut everything with a knife as I’m not a huge fan of the mandolin, and WOW 🤩 it was so delicious and refreshing the cucumber with the onions lovely. Maybe when and that’s a BIG when I make this recipe again I’m going to try some thinly sliced celery with it. Again James thank you 👍🏻.

  3. I remember seeing James mow down a shrimp dish you made and it was hilarious seeing him dive into it. Hearing him eating the salad with the crunch and desire to finish it was nice to see. I love this salad as well but I also like dill.

  4. Hello, what a delicious dish you prepared, tasty and beautiful, thanks for the recipe and good mood, friendly like, come visit, I will be very happy, good luck and all the best, have a nice week 🤩🤩🤗🤗😉😉🥰🥰

  5. I made this and just finished the last of it today. First time having cucumber salad despite living near Yankee Stadium and I’m upset it was the first, but it won’t be the last. I went ahead and tried it with a bit of Greek yogurt based tzatziki because I was scared of using plain sour cream or regular Greek yogurt like a German might along with a sprinkling of paprika (which also scared me) and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I’m making a batch again today 💀.

  6. As a person who cut the end of her thumb off on a mandoline while working at a restaurant, class, pay attention, please.

  7. Southerners have used this same recipe for years, since before I was born, and I'm in my fifties.

  8. I find it funny that you have that large cutting board and yet the only worn spot is in the center! Everything does not need to be cut in that same spot all the time! LOL!!

  9. i have a question – what can i use instead of dill? i hate dill and i realy don't like the taste and the smell

  10. I’m from the South, and in the summertime, we always had big jars of sliced cucumbers and Vidalia sweet onions in the fridge. The ‘dressing/marinade’ was vinegar, sugar (not nearly as much as you used though), black pepper, salt and water. This was a constant during the Summer, and always my favorite.

  11. One of the best salads. Born and raised in California, brought up with this delicious salad. Brought my daughter up on it. Passing it on to the next generation.

  12. I am so relieved to know that I'm not the only one who can't pour out of a Pyrex measuring cup. The struggle is real and so are you. I love this channel!!

  13. I salt the onions and cucumbers while in a strainer for an hour to release excess
moisture. Mix 'em all in a plastic zip lock, And sometimes 1/2 tsp celery salt. Serve in a
bowl, not a dish. Sweet and sour freezing cucumbers,
    we call them.

  14. I had this so many places when i was touring Germany. the Benelux countries and Scandanavia. It' not only good on hamburgers, it is great on those Smogasbord open faced sandwiches that the Scandanavians love so much. Large rye cracker with smoked salmon. cream cheese or mayo, cucumber salad, and fresh dill. Or herring, cucumber salad, and mushroom. So good

  15. James is a channel bonus! Love the palate and the candor – totally trust that kid’s opinion!

  16. For a German viewer that looks rather like "Schüttelgurken" (fast pickled cucumbers) than a standard German cucumber salad, which would look visually similar, though would have less sugar and vinegar, but cream and definitly also dill.

  17. Made cuke salad today. Reminded me of deli food in upstate NY. Very yummy. I buy 3 pack of English cukes at Costco all the time but can't seem to use all of them, now I will! Thanks old New Yorker in Florida now
