Hi gang! This is the apple pie filling from the Ball Home Preserving book. These jars just came out of the water bath canner and have siphoned. I must have over filled them, my bad. Here’s the question: if the seals hold after cooling are they safe to store and use? Should I not gift them, just to be safe? Thanks a bunch!

  2. Reprocess right away. The seals are broken. They will not hold long term.

for future concerns as well, The reason these are unsafe is because the pie filling gets between the rim of the jar and the seal so they don’t seal.

for things (pressure )canned in water like green beans, if siphoning happens, as long as the liquid is still half full in the jar and they seal, they are safe.
