On this episode of Cooking with Tovia, Chef Tovia demonstrates how to make Jewish Apple Cake. The ingredients aren’t difficult at all to find and if you follow this recipe closely you won’t go wrong.

I also suggest that you use regular eating apples instead of cooking apples as eating apples doesn’t become mushy when cooked.

Please be sure to watch the entire video for all tips and hints you may miss out on.

  1. That looks delicious Avoir.  I haven't made a Jewish apple cake in a few years.
It's one of my favorites.  Maybe I'll get around to making one this year.
Your cake has made me very hungry.  YUM

  2. Your cake looks lovely. Looks so flavorful, fluffy, and tender. I am going to bake it for my husband. Thanks for another good video.

  3. This looks good and the cake seems to be moist…Can you do a carmel cake, or have you done one already? By the by I LOVE YOUR T-SHIRT!!!!

  4. Yay for using what you've got—also, the price of butter seems to have shot up overnight.  Your cake looks delicious!

  5. Ok, I sound a bit pushy but here goes. Use the unsalted butter and Granny Smith apples. Chop the apples into small squares tossing in flour cinnamon mixture. At this time add walnuts broken into small pieces. Mix your batter folding in the coated apples and nuts. If you don't have grease to grease and flour the pan, use waxed paper to line the pan. Yes even a bundt pan. Bake as you have pulling the cake out after the first 45 to55 minutes. Cover with aluminum foil, put back in oven, turn the temp off and close the door to the stove. Beyond that your idea is wonderful. I have made many of these cakes (following holy days) when a rising agent is used. I'm Jewish but, the ice cream sounds good. Try sprinkling the top of the cake with cinnamon sugar and serve warm with a spoon of sour cream. Shalom to a very good cook. Thought about a cook book or going in front of Ramsey?

  6. Avoir! That looks EXACTLY like the Jewish Apple cake I used to get back in Philly 30 years ago! Makin' it for Christmas food gifts. Thanks brother! PTL. Peace.
