Rumor has it that the sloppy joe was created back in 1930 by a cook named Joe in Sioux City, Iowa. Adults and kids continue to love this sweet and savory sandwich, which Sarah makes with fresh ingredients. A quick, easy, and inexpensive meal that comes together in under 30 minutes!

  1. I love sloppy joe although its not a dish we have here in the uk but I'll trying making it at home now. Kate 🙂

  2. My recipe is similar — but my big trick is serve in hot dog buns, sooo much easier to eat.

  3. I love the way you said "serve it with a salad". The sort of sad tone, at the thought of someone eating sloppy joes with a salad, is quite appropriate, I think. Somethings just aren't meant to be done. In my opinion, if you're going to have sloppy joes, make proper sloppy joes and just enjoy them.

  4. And to think I just bought two cans of manwich today . Wish I would have seen this first. Darn it!

  5. Now I have to make some sloppy joes this weekend. I usually add some of my favorite BBQ sauce in with the ketchup to give it a little extra. I really enjoy all of the videos all of you guys do. Please keep up the GREAT work.

  6. Love this Sarah…….so quick and easy.  I make this for my family, but I like your recipe better.

  7. yes! love this recipe. pretty sure i orig used this same everyday sloppy joe recipe to create my version, with lentils and minced mushrooms instead of the beef. this is making me want some sloppy joes tonight! if only it wasnt 90* in Texas 🙁

  8. yummy I would sprinkle some white cheddar cheese on top w/ a side of sweet potato fries 🙂

  9. I actually don't use ketchup! lol I used diced tomatoes in place of the tom puree and then instead of ketchup I use Tomato paste. I just add that right to the meat first and cook it for a minute. THEN I add a can of corn to the mix. It makes it super YUMMY!

  10. Back in the midwest when I was a kid, there was never anything tomato or garlic or celery brought within 3 blocks of a kitchen engaged in making sloppy joes. There was cream of mushroom soup though, and the result was always delicious.

  11. I love sloppy joe, and my family loves it. We are mexican and we are not very used to whole american meals. So, on a usual sloppy joe night, what do you serve it with? Any classic sidedish that's not cornbread, cuz again… We don't have any of that. Any suggestions?

  12. In the Philippines we have a dish that is similar to that of Sloppy Joe's but in it we also add diced carrots and potatoes.

  13. People are do full of it with the constant apology for Ketchup. There is no reasonable replacement. Most every BBQ sauce is Ketchup based. Lets quit acting like we are so above it all.

  14. Haven't had one of these in over a decade, started craving them all of a sudden, I wonder why they dissapeared all of a sudden.

  15. I just made this and it was as delicious as the way she made it, probably because of the addition of ketchup (a definite must!), worcestershire sauce and red peppers/onions. The only thing I did differently was cook the garlic separately, it would get too bitter and turn dark brown after 7 minutes! Add potato chips (from Trader Joe's) on the side and it makes for a richly satisfying meal!
