  1. I love you!!! 😄😄😄 this is absolutely DEVINE!! Cant wait to try!

  2. As far as cakes go this is my favorite, my daughter bakes me one every year for my birthday…..

  3. Making this now but I’m gonna use a toothpick cause I like to live on the edge of bubbling hot sugar!

  4. Chef, I know you'll never see this on a 9-year old recipe but if you add blackberries instead of Maraschinos, it becomes even more magical.

    K, love ya, bye. 🌞

  5. Chef John, I usually enjoy your take on classics – however, I learned to make this with those hideous cherries!!! AND buttermilk and baking soda, salt with baking powder. My Mom always put in shredded sweet coconut – but forgive me mamma … I find that texture unbearable. However, the addition of rum I will have to try. Please try my version too. See if you like it.
I add buttermilk, melted butter — then add your dry ingredients. I do like the cherries too. IDK may be it's because I grew up eating those plutonium colored red cherries, or the flavor I just adore… but I think it looks really stunning too. 🙂

  6. Love pinapple upside down cake, my Dads favorite thing to make, I still make it the way he did, in the 50s we had can pineapple where we lived..used the cast iron skillet . do the butter n brown sugar..use the ring pineapple slices, drained well, jar cherries (drained well) one in each pinapple ring, whole pecans in any empty space..all placed carefully to look good when turned out..the cake was a Betty Crocker white box mix..i will try this recipe. ..but my heart us still with my Dads ole recipe ♡♡♡

  7. Hated to open a bottle of Dark Bacardi for a tablespoon so I used Honey Jack Daniels with a rebel yell!

  8. I like cream with mine. Preferrably, the weird one from the can or Devonshire cream. Strong coffee with a drop of spice rum in it.

  9. Made this today with a can of pineapple rings I needed to use, came out ok but not as caramel-ly as I would have liked…The combo of canned plus the added juice might have diluted the sauce…but good flavor, the browned butter is a nice touch…this is fairly easy to make, my 4 year old daughter assisted…thanks Chef John

  10. I just finished making this cake…sorry to say, this is my first CJ recipe that’s failed, lol…when I flipped the cake onto a plate, a lot of the cake stuck to the pan.
    It tastes really good though!
I will try again. Cheers! 🇨🇦
