  1. Würst is the best! All of my great-grandparents came over to Wisconsin from Germany in the 1880s. There was always a fear, passed down generation to generation, of not cooking raw pork long enough. This may have been where the the tradition of parboiling (simmering) came from. I wonder if this was the old way when meat processing was not as sanitary? My mother would have never served any pork which was slightly pink inside which is what you see today.

  2. Thank you so much for teaching me how to make brats. I didn’t cook my brats properly and they would burst, lol.

  3. I've literally been cooking these wrong my entire life. No wonder it takes so long the way I do it!

  4. I'm so pleased to have stumbled into your channel and so wonder how you feel about giving the bratwurst a two to three minute boil before putting it on the frying pan. What do you say to that, Marta?

  5. I've never fried them in oil but they do look delicious. I bet that skin is nice and crispy. I like that! My favorite way to cook bratwurst in on the grill to brown and cook the outside then in a roasting pan with beer and onions to finish cooking the inside and let the beer flavor get inside the brats. This is a great way to make brats for a party you can do the cooking early then put them all in a roaster and keep it warm all day if you need.

  6. I think I love bratwurst more than any other sausage…it's a july 4th tradition for me…though I'm always looking for new ways to improve my approach.

For most of my life i've just been cooking them in a pan with water and oil (first steaming, then frying).
last year I tried broiling them in the oven (instead of frying)…that worked out well, but sometimes it was overcooked and it was hard to regulate.

a lot of people recommend perforating the brats' skin to avoid bursting, which i've done usually…and yeah, it works–but i always feel guilty that a lot of the juice (and flavor) is leaking out

so this year i'm trying something new, perforating the skin, BUT wrapping the sausage with bacon
…i think this will constrict the brat to prevent bursting (…like dressing a wound)
…the oil from the bacon will help provide a more consistent heating of the skin
…and the mass of the bacon will continually reflect the heat inward…making it more consistent on the inside too
…plus it's pork too, so, you know, flavor synergy

(now that I wrote all that, I feel like all that heat building inside would probably make it MORE likely to explode, lol)

    P.S.
thank you for your tip about drying them and bringing them to room temperature first!
    i'm definitely trying that!!

  7. Bratwurst is addictive I always burn mine but it taste so good driving partner lives it. Several team drivers became addictive to Bratwurst. However in truck I have to use electric skillet
