Went to the first night of service for the new Pearl Dive Oyster Bar. It’s on West 5th where Zushi Sushi used to be, across the street from El Arroyo and next to Mean Eyed Cat.

I’d say it’s a worthy option to Clark’s Oyster Bar up on West 6th and an immediate competitor considering the proximity. The ownership group also runs Sweetwater Oyster Bar in Cedar Park and Swank cocktail lounge on 4th St.

Pearl Dive’s menu had 15 varieties of oysters on opening night. Not sure about the oyster pricing, wasn’t listed and I didn’t order any.

I got one of the specialty entrees (Clam Tagliatelle, $37) a salad (Butter Lettuce, $10) and a cocktail (Pearl Margarita, $16). So $80 out the door with tax and tip, and I ordered modestly.

The tagliatelle was delicious, surrounded by clams, the white wine, garlic and light cream flavor really set up nicely with a grilled lemon finish.

Also really impressed by the blistered tomatoes on the salad. I think the bartender said they’re grilled with basil and watermelon. I wanted more!

Ambiance for a Wednesday night was pretty dazzling. Live jazz band, stylish guests, lots of excited staff and the dining room really filled up by the time I left around 8:00.

There’s a grand opening “brunch extravaganza” scheduled for October 1st. I’m interested to see how happy hour shapes up, hopefully that’s coming soon.

Look at the menu pic. Those prices are insane. Miso glazed salmon for $49! No mention of where they sourced it. Farmed Atlantic salmon probably (if better, they would say so, don’t you think?)

Now compare that to the king salmon (the very best variety) at the Grove Wine Bar: “Big Glory Bay King Salmon: crispy skin, seasonal vegetables, coconut-lime-cilantro rice, citrus-caper vinaigrette, sea salt flakes (Gluten Free, Dairy Free)” for $33. You can get a different type but excellent salmon on a salad there for $22.

Who is paying the kinds of prices we see at places like this new oyster bar? Or the $135 ribeye at Jeffrey’s?

  5. That font definitely makes the main plates on the menu look like “Special Ties”

  6. Thanks for sharing! Clarksville resident – glad to see Zushi gone, excited to check this place out.

I had wondered if this place had anything to do with the DC restaurant with the same name, but looking at the menu and the prices, I’m guessing not.

  8. Those prices are stupid. And I am very irresponsible with my money when I comes to food.

Pacific coast oysters!!! Pumped about that. I have scars from drunkenly opening oysters on the beach in OR. West coast oysters are best oysters
