I canned 12 jars of yellow wax beans last week. So much work and I was looking forward to trying one to see how I did! I just did water and a little salt (as per an online suggestion) and canned them as usual. I opened one up to use to try and it smells horrible! Lots of white foam and gas. The bottom of the jars look like milk.
Obviously they are getting thrown out but I am very sad and disappointed. what happened to them? I always sanitize my jars and tops in boiling water and make sure everything is clean. But every single jar? Was I not supposed to put salt in?

What recipe did you use?

Friendly reminder to always take the rings off when you’re putting them on the shelf. Keeping the rings on can mask a bad seal. Also don’t boil your lids – that’s not done anymore.

We’re these pressure canned?
What does “canned them as usual” mean?
It’s not necessary to sanitize the jars and tops if you process them correctly – with a pressure canner.
Also, did the lid buttons pop up or were they still sealed?
Oof what was the tested recipe? If you didn’t use one this is hopefully a wake up call, bullet dodged, etc etc.
Why are you canning fingers?
