Got these pressure cooked and canned from friend may of 2023. Had about 30, the last few I’ve opened have had more and more of these black areas. Is this bad?

Could it be rust or something degrading the metal? Either way, I wouldn’t eat them.

If you swab it and it comes up easy yea but it looks like spores which is equally as bad

The second picture looks like corrosion to me, the edges of the black part look like rust. Usually when this happens it’s little dots around the lid, if you try to wipe it off does it come off? If not then I would assume it’s corrosion and not mold of some sort. Per the NCHFP lids with this problem are fine as long as the corrosion hasn’t gone all the way through the lid and the seal is intact ([https://nchfp.uga.edu/questions/FAQ_canning.html#13&gsc.tab=0](https://nchfp.uga.edu/questions/FAQ_canning.html#13&gsc.tab=0)). Personally I probably wouldn’t eat them bc it kind of grosses me out, but if it’s just corrosion it should be harmless.

How do you feel about taking chances? If you think its better to be safe, then you should discard. We cant smell, taste or feel this stuff, use all your senses and make a determination based on that and not what internet strangers say.
