  1. Had these at Disney land for the first time and fell in love!! I knew my boY chef jOhn would have a recipe. Thanks!!!!

  2. I'd love to see Chef John on "Food Network Star" but because of his double-dipping persona and not giving ingredient amounts, (among other things), he probably wouldn't make the judges very happy unless he were to revert to his original mthods. XD

  3. You forgot the mushrooms! Required for the real thing. And add some nutmeg to the cheese grits for authenticity.

  4. If I say, What's polenta, I'm an ignorant hick. When yankee says, What's grits, it's because the are above food of the riff-raff and have discriminating palates.

    Whatever.

  5. I actually like this version better than the gravy one.The Gravy can make the grits soupy. 👎😬

  6. this recipe is terrific! i just modified some things on it:
i used fresh full wild shrimps with the skin on, and cut to half, the skin and the flesh from the back. i just removed the heads.
i added thin sliced chorizo with the bacon, for the flavour and because here, the bacon we have is not fat enough .
i also added fresh minced ginger into the cream mix and fresh thyme.
    just delicious.

  7. Chef John, I LOVE your channel. I have successfully made several of your recipes. Loved them all. I look forward to making more. Thank you for what you do. Now, having said that, while this recipe might be tasty, it “ain’t” Shrimp and Grits. You may call it shrimp in grits. Or even shrimp with grits. But it is no where close to authentic Shrimp and Grits. You come on down (or maybe over, from where you live)to Charleston and we’ll show you the difference. Otherwise, GREAT channel!!

  8. You need to use Charleston stone ground grits. Instead of water use chicken, beef or seafood broth. You gotta stur the grits. I don’t used instant.

  9. not bad but true southern style shrimp n grits involves making a roux with the trinity, also I always devine the shrimp and don't be shy with the tobasco sauce

  10. The link is useless. Anyone that ruins shrimp and cheese grits is useless too. Captain cayenne ruins yet another dish.

  11. Do you think I could use shrimp stock from the heads and shells instead of water for the grits? Any thoughts?

  12. Just made this for my family with ingredients we had on hand. Shallots, fresh garlic, and a baby bell pepper for the veggies. The sauce was water, half and half, and soy sauce. Everglades Seasoning “Florida Heat” worked well for the spice. Thank you for the inspiration!

  13. "Kiss my grits" was from the 70's show Alice. Whenever the cook Mel would make Flo mad, she would say that line to him. Think it was suppose to mean "kiss my a$$."🙊
