Welcome to our channel! In this video, we’re excited to share with you an incredibly delicious and protein-packed recipe – Spicy Turkish Chickpea Salad, also known as Nohut Piyazi! 🌶️🥗

If you love exploring new flavors and enjoy healthy, hearty meals, this recipe is perfect for you. We’ll take you through all the steps to create this mouthwatering salad that’s bursting with Mediterranean flavors and fresh ingredients.

Ingredients:
250g chickpeas (soaked overnight and cooked) OR canned cooked chickpeas
¼ cup (50ml) olive oil + 2 tbsp for frying the chickpeas
1 onion, thinly sliced into crescents
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 red pepper, thinly sliced
2 sun-dried tomatoes, finely sliced
2 tsp paprika powder
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp chili/red pepper flakes (pul biber)
1 tsp ground sumac
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup chopped parsley
5 – 6 leaves fresh basil
2 tsp salt or to taste

Instructions:
If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight, drain, and cook in simmering water for 1.5 hours until soft. Alternatively, use canned cooked chickpeas. Drain and set aside.
In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of olive oil and add the chickpeas. Add 1 tsp of salt and 2 tsp of paprika, stirring and cooking for 5 minutes until chickpeas are red and fragrant. Set aside the chickpeas, scraping all the spices from the pan.
Chop the onions, garlic, red pepper, and sun-dried tomatoes, and set them aside.
Heat the remaining olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, stirring and cooking for 3-4 minutes until the onions are slightly soft and the garlic is fragrant.
Add the chopped red peppers, dried tomatoes, and ½ tsp salt. Stir and cook for 2 minutes.
Turn off the heat, let it cool down, and add ½ tsp cumin, ½ tsp chili flakes, and 1 tsp sumac to the mixture.
Add the spice mixture over the chickpeas and mix to combine the flavors.
Finely chop the parsley and fresh basil, and add them to the bowl.
Squeeze 2 tbsp of lemon juice and add it to the ingredients.
Gently mix the ingredients to combine without bruising the herbs.
Serve the Spicy Turkish Chickpea Salad in a bowl and enjoy it with flatbread as a main dish or serve it as a refreshing salad/side dish.
