In this video, we show you how to make Manakeesh, which is the equivalent of Lebanese Pizza. Manakeesh is also known as Manouche, Manoushe, Manakish, Manaqish and Manaeesh – and popular in many Middle Eastern countries including Lebanon. Manakeesh is a type of Arabic Bread, and essentially dough topped with a special blend of spices called Za’atar. Za’atar contains a wonderful blend of various herbs and spices including oregano, thyme, sesame seeds and sumac. There are various types of Manakeesh, but the most popular ones are topped with Za’atar and/or cheese. The flavours of the Za’atar spice mix are really special and Manakeesh is absolutely a stunningly delicious dish.

For the Manakeesh recipe, you will need:
1 sachet yeast (7g)
1 tbs sugar
1 cup warm water
3 cups all-purpose flour
salt to taste
2 tbs olive oil

For the Manakeesh toppings you will need:
Za’atar
Olive oil
Mozzarella Cheese
Nigella seeds
Optional garnishing for the Manakish:
Pines Nuts
Pomegranate

You can either enjoy a Za’atar Manakeesh, a cheese Manakish or even a combination of both Za’atar and Cheese on a Manaeesh!

This Za’atar Manakeesh is absolutely delicious and an explosion of exotic Middle Eastern flavours. Manoushe (Manakeesh) is not as heavy as pizza and often served as a starter or side dish.

This really is a super easy Manakish Recipe and we hope you give it a try!
So what would be your favourite Manakeesh topping? Manakeesh with Za’atar, Manakish with Cheese or a combination of both?
