If you need a dinner idea look no further. This easy to make pide-pizza recipe is really foolproof and offers so many possibilities to customize your toppings. You can make it with only veggies for a vegetarian version, add more meat and cheese than I have used, or brush the dough with olive oil and bake it as a simple focaccia bread. The possibilities are endless.

Homemade Turkish Pide Pizza with Ground Beef

For the dough:
1 cup (250ml) lukewarm water
1 teaspoon sugar
2-2.5 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Italian seasonings (optional)
1 teaspoon salt

For the topping:
1 lbs (450 grams) ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1.5 tbsp tomato paste (or you can use about 1/2 cup of tomato sauce)
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or more if desired)

1. In a bowl, combine the water, yeast and sugar. Mix and let stand for about 5 minutes.
2. Once the yeast has activated (bubbles have formed at this point) add the olive oil, salt, dried herbs and mix. Gradually add the flour to the wet mixture until it is thick enough to start kneading with your hands.
3. Knead the dough by hand for 3-4 minutes, or it no longer sticks to your hands. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and let rise for at least 20 minutes.
4. In the meantime, add olive oil and onions to a skilled and sautée until translucent. Add the garlic followed by the ground beef. Brown beef through, add the tomato paste and the spices and stir. Set aside and let cool.
5. Preheat the oven to 220C (450F). Flatten the dough onto parchment paper lined baking tray. Spread the meat mixture onto the dough and sprinkle with cheese.
6. Bake pie pizza for 12-14 minutes or until crust is golden brown and the cheese has melted. Serve as is, with a dollop of yogurt or a green salad.
