As a dumb hipster east sider, I’ve never been to or heard of either of these places, but the article made me laugh out loud. The owner spends the article talking about ‘giving back’ and ‘community’ and bemoaning those who see nightlife as a way to flaunt money and exclusivity, but they’re charging $18 for a beer, $20-$50 per cocktail, and are only accessible by invite and password? WTF are you even talking about

Amazing.
How it started:
“I come from New York where nightlife was all about the freaks that come out at night. These were people that went out for a drink to meet somebody new.”
How it’s going:
“Guests need a special invitation and know the revolving password to enter the hidden bookcase.”
This whole thing seems kinda whack. That article takes every opportunity to name drop some dude I’ve never heard of, and talk about his shitty places that closed down. This seems like a concept that would have been cool like 10 years ago? The whole place is upside down?Early Yelp activity is not favorable…
But Blue Collar may one of LA’s most underrated bars. Chill vibe and great bespoke cocktails.
Maybe this new thing is just weirdo input from a new investor?
