Greetings! I wanted to do something different with my ham this Easter, so I have decided to make a glaze using Pomegranate Molasses. This does not contain actual molasses as the name might suggest, but is rather a thick reduction of pomegranate juice, orange juice and dark sugar. The result is a very thick syrupy almost honey like, sweet and tangy concoction. Perfect for glazing my holiday ham!

You can purchase pomegranate molasses online and in some specialty markets, but I know that in my area I can buy pomegranate juice almost everywhere and the other ingredients are easy to find as well so making it was cheaper, albeit, not very cheap, and easier, but this does take some time, so be prepared to spend at least a hour on it.

In the end I have a wonderful elixir that can be used in many ways. It can be used as a glaze, a base for a marinade, an ice cream topping, a drizzle for waffles or pancakes, used to make cocktails or Italian sodas, I could think of a bunch of uses for this which is good, because the amount I made rendered me 1 quart of the fabulous sticky deliciousness!

I hope you will give this a try and I hope you love it!

Happy Eating!

  1. I drink the Pom juice all the time … great application ! Noreen! the other day I watched your video making biscuits with your hand held kneeder that you liked with metal blades; well I went to the Good Will store near me & I found one just like it for 1.51 & with discount & got it for 74 cents ! Looked new ! Thank you for ALL of your videos !

  2. Do you think pineapple juice could be substituted for the orange juice? Thanks for a great video.

  3. I think I will experiment just the same. I substitue pineapple for oranges in other recipes. I think that this would make a good glaze for chicken, too. Thanks for your input. 🙂

  4. Its a very thick fruit syrup. You could not use it as a sub for regular molasses. Use of the term Molasses is just because of it's similarity in texture and body to the regular molasses.

  5. Great video , although i am arabic but this is the first time that i knew it could be done at home thank u nooren ;**
If anybody wants to buy it ready u can find it in any middeleasttern store or indian stores they all carry it , we call it "dibs elrooman"

  6. YUM! This would be so yummy on pancakes or waffles too! I went to big lots today and found gossner milk and the dehydrated garlic, i was super excited about them 🙂 do you make sure you use your milk by the best buy date or do you let it go past??? the date on mine are till the end of june.

  7. Drizzle that on kefir or yogurt and add some chopped apple and walnuts …oh my that would be good!

  8. Hi Noreen! I have a question, probably a dumb one but here goes…is there a way to make this in a slow-cooker? I'm guessing it's not a good idea but I'd like your opinion. Thank you in advance. Hugs, Jodi

  9. Krogers has the 8 oz bottles of Pom wonderful juice on sale $10 for 10. I thought we couldn't afford it until that sale. Should be good until 12 AM Monday

  10. That is amazing! Thank you so much Noreen, the only glitch is I can never find raw sugar where I live. Will substitute it with brown sugar, hppefully it will work … thanks much !! Xox

  11. It's very popular here in Iran. We have got a dish which I really like and it's especially from north of Iran. And it's called AKBAR JOOJE. It concludes a piece of fried chicken and white rice (rice is mostly the main basis of our dishes!) . After its ready you just put pomegranate molasses (called " Rob-e-Anar " in Persian) on your fried chicken by the eater and eat it. It's simple but damn delicious.

  12. Thank you Noreen!! just what I was looking for. I did find Pomegranate molasses, in the Market near me, I'd never heard of it, but it had so much in it that i put it back.

  13. Noreen thanks so much for this video. I made this as dressing to go over roasted brussel sprouts. I let mine simmer for over an hour and it never thickened not even in fridge, not sure where I went wrong but it tasted divine anyway looking forward to trying out your other recipes as well. Happy Holidays

  14. I've made persimmon glasses twice now it comes out really good. If you wait till the Persimmons almost liquefy, that's when the highest sugar content is created. Then you boil the juice with twice as much water to extract the sugar. Then you put in some lime or calcium hydroxide pickling lime that will help the solids separate from the liquids strain it comma then reduce it very good. No sugar needed. But I will try yours. Would be a good meat glaze.

  15. Noreen, thank you so much for this recipe. I used 1 1/2 cup of orange juice and 1/2 cup of lemon along with turbinado sugar. I tasted it before reduction and it is divinely delicious! Can't wait to see how the syrup turns out! Putting it on my turkey. Will let you know how it turns out.

  16. Thanks for the awesome recipe. Pomegranates are cheap in India and I'd love preparing it as we have relations to Iran. I want to ask you about the song that played at the beginning of the video. What's that song and who's the artist ?

  17. WOW! Snap that was so good, I usually just use sugar and nothing else but this just raises it to the next level! Thank you so much!! This is a keeper!!

  18. I kinda screwed up i think…I used my champion Juicer to juice my pomegranate seeds/aerils and it looks like it did such a good job extracting all the juice + even some of the creamy seed oils so when I reduced it by half is now a shade of creamy light purple 🙄💔 it tastes good still but definitely not sure what i did wrong
