My Korean neighbor has been working on this for a few days now. It was little orange colored “fruits”(?), they peeled away the skin/flesh and just kept the seeds. It doesn’t smell that great.
The seeds are now cleaned and still sitting outside.

I bet that smells “amazing”! Haha. Those are ginkgo nuts. They peel off the yellow fruit and dry them, then hull them. A delicacy of the fall season. Used in many dishes, but steamed with rice is my favorite.
Ginkgo
We had a gingko tree at our high school which everyone called “the poo tree” 🤢
You should be able to find roasted Ginkgo nuts as a street food. Usually light yellow in color and on a little stick. They are slightly bitter in taste but very good for brain health. It’s an acquired taste.
I can smell this post lol
I remember my grandma making me go to the shitty smelling tree to collect ginkgo nuts. Smells awful, tastes great.
Thanks all! The smell punches me in the face every time I open my door. I’ll have to work up the courage to ask them for some to taste.
Just a heads up! The first time I ate it, I was at my friend’s house and his mom said “This is mildly poisonous.” Excuse me??? “Yeah, but you have to eat more that 5 seeds at a time.”
I think the nut inside smells different than the fruit..?
Rarely do you see female Gingko trees in cities, bc the seed coat has Butyric acid.

See a picture of cooked ginkgo.

It’s yummy. There are so many ginkgo trees along the street in Seoul.
