Pellets on the left and right are the same brand and type, Pit boss competition. Any knowledge on why the color is so different? The pellets on the right are older but less than a month and the ones on the left, I picked up yesterday.

Pit boss competition blend is stated to be a blend of cherry, maple, and hickory. I’m sure those proportions aren’t perfectly equal every time and some hickory can get pretty dark. That would be my best guess.
Wood of the same species can vary wildly in color. I would take this as a good sign, that they don’t add anything extra to the pellets to make them look more uniform.
They also look like they’re different diameter.
As someone else noted, trees can vary pretty wildly, and given it’s a blend the variance is even more likely. I’d agree it’s a good sign they don’t add extra shot to make them uniform. PB makes decent enough stuff, never had a problem with them myself
