My mother was never a good cook and we didn’t have a ton of money so I would regularly eat tin cans of green beans. I grow my own now and they taste good but I kind of want the old sh*tty taste from my childhood. So if anyone knows how to make squishy colorless vegetables I would genuinely appreciate a recipe.

do like my mom, and after I had pressure canned them for 20 minutes with no salt, dump them in a pot with more water and boil them for an additional 20 plus minutes.

Add too much salt and overprocess them?

Ah, nostalgia. Makes us crave weird foods.

Heads for the can of sardines…

For me, it’s grilled cheese with the kraft singles. Making them with real cheese is all well and good, but nothing hits like those crappy, probably flavored plastic, fake orange slices.

This is hilarious. Reminds me of a time a few friends were out for dinner. One person’s dinner came with a side of mashed potatoes. They were fancy, with the potato skins mashed in, etc. and looked really nice. Her face fell, and she said, “That’s not how my mom used to make mashed potatoes.” Turns out her mom made instant.

I sincerely love canned green beans… I too grow them and and while my wife and kids love them raw and in various recipes, I find them to be too “squeaky.”

I just can’t beat that delicious canned green bean taste and texture…
