Did the owner really just try to justify their pizza price by comparing themselves to a couple of the most iconic pizza places in NYC? Not only is the cost of living there higher, but the quality and competition is much higher there too, and those businesses worked for years to establish themselves as a consistently excellent pizza and even still, you are paying extra for their reputation. For a bit less than those restaurants, you can get pizza at other spots in NYC that are under-the-radar that are cheaper and just as good of quality.

Sorry guy, your pizza is not on the same level as those guys. The pizza was below average for an NYC pizza. It’s pretty good for Austin, but not $40 good for a two-topping, 16” pizza. Crust was way too burnt on the pie and they were rude about it too.

I would recommend Pedroso’s if you want quality, NYC style pizza. Even Yaghi’s (ask for it extra crispy and throw some basil and fresh parm or ricotta on it when you get home.

Support local business instead, Austin needs more mom and pop places serving authentic cultural food, not these clown coming from NYC overcharging to get a pizza from their pizza “club.” It’s pizza dude, not a lifestyle. I don’t think this place is going to last, will probably be floated by Instagram hype for a bit and die down. I got caught in it, and won’t be back. Hopefully people aren’t coming to Austin for our pizza. (Chili’s on Lamar does do a good pizza on Wednesdays.)

Also: they charge for parm and crushed red pepper. even the dollar slice joints in NYC include that lol.

  1. Yup, greed based prices.

The upcharge in parm and pepper is indeed a good example

The owner of Sammataro is not associated with La Volta. The name change occurred after he left. Not really fair to criticize a new business for the stupid things someone said who is not part of that business.

    This should read “Sammataro review.”

I’m more into mall thin big slice pizza. I go to the Dollar Slice Club on the Drag. It’s good pizza.

I tried the same pizza at Sammataro and La Volta and the one at Sammataro was better. The one at La Volta was more burnt and too burnt for me. It was also incredibly loud in there, also too loud for me. I don’t want to yell to talk to the person I’m with.

Would love to hear about some of these under-the-radar NYC spots that are just as good as L’Industrie. Thanks!

Sammataro pizza was some of the most overrated and mediocre pizza I’ve had in Austin. It was dry as hell.

Grimaldi’s and Juliano’s are iconic, and do not charge this much.

I think my biggest culture shock coming here from NY (state) is how dang expensive pizza is.

They charge for parm and crushed red pepper??? Stfu…

I never wanted to try this place because of reviews like this, but now it’s an extra don’t want to try.

Really no reason to eat there with Pedrosos around.

Fuck Lucalis. They act all high and mighty. Places like that are for transplants who didn’t grow up in the city. Ain’t no real NYers got time to wait around for a slice. Go down to the local spot like pizza boy or Joe’s and be in and out while the shmucks at Lucalis are still waiting to get inside.

Another vote for Yaghi’s for NY style pizza

We went here yesterday and the caesar salad was awful. Pink lettuce and dressing with no flavor. We got lunch slices for $4.50 and those were good but on the smaller side.

Do they not advertise their prices before you order or something? Not saying they’re justified with whatever they charge as I have not been, but if you know the prices ahead of time, why make a fuss after? I never understood why people complain about prices they already feel are high going into it.

Anyway, just came back from NY and missing Nolita Pizza right around the corner, sigh.

Dude, try side eye pie. $10-$12 during happy hour and they are solid.

  16. No more dollar pizza in Brooklyn anyway, my son lives in Bed-Sty. But there’s great pizza slices for 2.50$ to 3.00$ a slice.

thanks for the heads up about this place, I’ve been trying to get NYC style za here for years, I’ll try the places you mentioned. I think Reale’s is good (620 and 183 access at Anderson Mill Rd.) I do not like Saccone’s, now I’m from Bronx so I have a love of NYC pizza, but if that is Jersey pizza I’m glad I never had a slice. You pick the slice up and it falls apart or falls down, that is NOT good pizza.

This makes me wish that a real life pizza club would be an amazing thing. For a monthly subscription, you could get a new pie every two weeks from a different place.

If I’m spending $40 on a pizza, the owner better suck me up
