What I ate in 2 weeks in and around LA. I lurked the sub for recs for about 6 months prior to my surf trip from Germany to California. Thank you for the hard work and many postings in this sub, I wouldn’t have had so many amazing meals without you guys. You are blessed to eat in Los Angeles.

Glad to see you enjoyed your trip and thanks for the detailed pictures and descriptions as well. Hope you come back soon 👍🏼
Really good spots! Lived here 20 years and i wouldn’t do it another way (well, maybe add a few Korean joints)
I have to thank you for this!! I was at Mariscos Jalisco years ago with a friend, and for the life of me, could not remember where/who they were. I have craved that damn ceviche since!!! Glorious be the visit to the ceviche truck once again!!
is german, comes to california, loads up on fish tacos and mexican food during a surf trip. 10/10 awesome job on the food selection, hope the surf trip was a blast and you enjoyed it here!
favorite surf spot?
Dayum you got AROUND. You also covered a bunch of places that are on my list to try. Now I’m motivated to get out there and try some of those out!
Thanks for sharing.
This was awesome to read, glad you enjoyed yourself! “Town full of Zach wilsons” lololol
Last pic with the hot dog made me laugh. Strategic location. Glad you enjoyed the food here, well, mostly. lol
Double visits to Holbox and Mariscos Jalisco *like a motherfuckin pro*.
Glad you enjoyed, always happy when someone makes the most of their visit (and you did as well as anybody could with your picks)!
Two weeks in LA, I devoured gourmet tacos, blissful bites of sushi, and indulged in tantalizingly sweet treats. Each meal was a dance of flavors that left me craving for more. Foodie paradise indeed!
You hit all the spots! Amazing. Loved scrolling through this & seeing your ratings. Now I need Holbox, mariscos jaliscos, pizza & a burger.
great post and glad you enjoyed your food tour of this great city.
Wow you did well. Great share
Great job, you definitely made the most out of two weeks out here.
What an amazing post!
Woah!!! Awesome post!! Thanks for the notes… so glad you had tons of great eats!
Regarding the Oaxacan Plate…. Tesajo is an air dried cut that is meant to be dry. Most places don’t go full jerky… but between the cut of meat itself and then grilling, it’s not going to be tender. It’s best when cut and the soaked on salsa and other garnishes on top. Good call on the enfrijoladas though. You don’t see that dish too often and it’s so good.
You probably got unlucky with the al pastor. It’s like when the döner man turns up the heat all of a sudden and ends up burning the meat.
Great spots great review – thanks
Mariscos Jalisco rated at 10/10 might even be under selling it lol. Great choices!
Sorry our wieners disappointed you. Brings me joy to read about a German enjoying our city’s cuisine!
WOW this is such an impressive array!! I am so jealous (and now hungry). The double visit to Mariscos Jaliscos makes me *so* happy.
Awesome post. Glad you made the best of your trip. Going to check out Mariscos Jalisco today.
Love this post and love the Zach Wilson comment!
You covered all the bases! Next time you’ll have to try Korean BBQ and ramen
People like you make me want to keep contributing to this sub. Clearly you did your research and really nailed it for LA food! Well played sir!! Very glad you got mariscos a few times and you got the good stuff too. It’s so easy to find here that I think we don’t think of it as anything special or fancy, and yet you can’t find it in so many other countries or areas and it is special. I can imagine where you’re from that might even be a big reason to come back here.
Your lurking paid off! It’s so good to read a traveler’s reviews because sometimes I forget how damn lucky I am to live here. Next time, I encourage you to venture into Asian cuisines! Cheers!
you ate like a king. also, you had a shitload of seafood lol.
nicely done.
You come on back any time, honorary Angeleno!
Nice post and next time try out Asian food here in LA. We have the best Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, possibly Japanese, in the country.
Holey Grail is literally the best donut shop I’ve ever been to. All their donut flavors are exceptional, and frying them on the spot so they’re nice and hot when you take a bite is a stoke of genius. Love the taro flour base. Their coffee donut tastes like someone infused your favorite plain donut into the best cup of coffee you ever had, then made that back into a donut. The first time we went there the person making the donuts accidentally made an extra so we tried a flavor we wouldn’t normally go for and even that was bonkers good.
Just, if you haven’t yet, try their donuts.
Great post! Thank you for sharing.
I’m picky about al pastor tacos and sad yours was burnt and dry. Did they slice it right off the trompo onto your tortilla or was it heated additionally in the flattop? Judging by the color of the meats, it seems like it got the flattop treatment. The best quality is right off the trompo for the juicyness while having the charred edges with the carmelization of the marinade.
Holbox and mariscos jaliscos are great examples of what makes LA food so amazing. Top quality delicious food in small unpretentious paces that are affordable and great bang for your buck.
I’m always proud of LA and thrilled when visitors have a great food experience. Happy for you and thanks again for sharing.
Excellent choices! Next time you gotta get one of hotdogs they sell outside of sofi after the show/events 🙂
Love that you had such a great time eating your way through our city! Your captions made me happy.
Visiting Mariscos Jalisco twice is something an actual Angelino would do. I think you’re ready to move down here.
This is awesome. Job well done.
Wow! Way to dominate the food scene! Hope you are making your own ceviche out in Germany !!!!
You surfed from Germany to California? Whoa dude. Nice work.
Love dad.
“Tacos a town full of Zach Wilson’s would enjoy” I’m dead lol
I think you would’ve been better off with the lobster roll at Broad Street, but still a very impressive food trip!
Damn, this guy eats just like me ..
This is impressive 👏🏽
