This week, we’re featuring **Prospect Heights**, **Fort Greene** and **Clinton Hill**
We’re going by this unofficial [Google Map overlay](https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1VYN-6Vkk01byUCF7P13rT6ORT5g) as a GENERAL outline as to what the neighborhoods are. It’s not a strict requirement but try not to go too far outside of the boundaries.
Some optional prompts:
* What are some of your favorite food spots or “hidden gems”?
* Any “must have” or go to dishes from those particular spots?
* Are there any points of interest or events that is worth going out of the way to visit?

Miss Ada in Fort Greene! Incredible Mediterranean food.
Forma Pasta Factory in Fort Greene certainly isn’t a hidden gem, but you can’t beat $13 freshly made pastas – the pipette ragu is my go-to.
Locanda Vini et Olii in Clinton Hill never disappoints, and the location (in an old pharmacy) is lovely.
And it’s technically Crown Heights by a block, but Puerto Viejo, a killer Dominican restaurant, is just off Washington Ave, and… I’m about to order their pernil right now, because I’ve been thinking about it all day!

I always like to plug The Islands on Washington Ave. Good jerk chicken, nice people.
Little Egg for breakfast
Ciao Gloria for wonderful salads, grain bowls, sandwiches, and pastries
Guevara’s for an amazing vegan eggplant sandwich
Otway bakery for fresh bread
Cruz del Sur for excellent Mexican
The Social and its sibling, the newly-reopened Ample Hills, for wonderful ice cream
Good batch for ice cream sandwiches
Petee’s Pies for — the pies (I like the cherry crumb and the various chess pies)
Oxalis for fine dining
Place des Fetes for a great wine bar
Hartley’s for a great Irish bar
Sofreh for Persian
For fort greene.
Brooklyn public house for nachos and good pub food.
Black iris for good middle eastern.
Farmer in the deli on Myrtle and Adelphi for the best deli sandwiches. Warning these sandwiches are HEFTY. There’s usually a line, but it’s worth the wait.
Thaiholic, love their green papaya salad and Holic wings
Walters, best fries in the neighborhood and everything they make is good.
Mario’s pizza on dekalb and Clermont.
Osteria Brooklyn and Graziellas
I’m concur w Farmer, not sure if it falls in the range but love oxalis and brancaiccos on ft ham. Also for code and Sandi on church Ave is Der pioneer

I’ve struggled to find any good pizza. Graziellas and Il Porto were not great.
I’ve tried a bunch of burgers in the area here’s my list. Looking for more recommendations!
Top,
Emily imo the best of the bunch, the other 4 are all close for their own reasons, also the most expensive. $31 w fries
A small step below,
Mekelburgs on Wednesdays it’s $9 and you get a beer. Probably closest to my favorite bc of dry aged beef. Also comes w potato wedges but they weren’t that good.
Cafe Paulette a French bistro burger done right. Comes with a nice portion of fries and a bitter green salad. Cheese is extra but they don’t skimp. $24 w added cheese
Otway excellent all around but imo not as good as Emily. Great fries. $23 w fries.
The Fat Rabbit , served on buttered toast but can sub a bun. Lots of textures. I’m not big on smash patties but it’s very good. $20 w fries and curried pickles
Next tier,
Sisters best of this tier. Again good sum of parts and $20 w fries.
LaLou is only available during lunch which o think is Fri/Sat/sun. Peppery bit overcooked while still being juicy. Too much bun to burger ratio , but keeps things from being too soggy. $23 w salad
Choice Market good burger but too much going on w toppings, imo better than LaLou. $17 w excellent fries.
Next tier,
Brooklyn public burger was way overcooked and had a stale bun. During lunch it’s $13 for beer + bacon cheeseburger so definitely the cheapest option anyway of the week.
prospect heights- mitchels soul food and cataldos for old school italian. Cataldo’s is owned by the brother of the owner of Vinnie’s of Carrol Gardens. Cheap wine, better than average red sauce, food is huge and staff is friendly.
Mitchels has been there forever. they fry chicken to order, place is a throw back. definitely sit inside and chill out.
Fort Greene, Miss Adda, ZHONGzhong noodles, Joe and Sal’s, El Cofre, farmer in the deli
Clinton Hill- 3 Luigis, Mekelburgs, PDF, Taylor Made, Guevaras, Locando Vini y Oli, Otway, yafa deli.
Luigi’s on Dekalb
The trout rillette at Leland is amazing. I’ve never had a bad dish there, but that’s a standout for me
In Prospect Heights I like Ozakaya, Fausto, Sofreh for bougie. Zaytoon’s is solid Middle Eastern and has a nice yard. Tom’s Diner and Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe for breakfast. Hit up Getrude’s recently – great new spot. Patti Ann’s (same owners as Olmsted) is 90s kid nostalgia, very fun.
Prospect Heights here
I think Leland is the best restaurant in the area.
Zaytoons deserves a lot of love. Good food, delivers well (though also great in-restaurant of course), very reasonably priced, large portions. Believe they’re cash only if you dine in.
Chuko is great if you plan to dine in. I learned the hard way that delivery ramen isn’t the same. Nothing against them, as their food is delicious.
Sushi Lin is one of the best “neighborhood sushi” places in NYC in terms of quality. I’ll put it up against Sushi Yasaka on the UWS.
Ciao Gloria’s breakfast sandwiches are fantastic.
Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe is great.
Lowerline’s po boys are full of flavor. Don’t skip them.
Ozakaya has great food and drinks.
I’d like to pour one out for Plant Love House. Awesome Thai. I also really miss Maison Yaki.
I’d take Cruz del Sur over Alta Calidad.
I went to Oxalis once and found the food forgettable for the most part. Their bread course is incredible and I could eat that for every meal, but the bread course shouldn’t be the most memorable course of a Michelin-starred tasting menu. The service was Michelin-star quality though.
I found Olmsted’s food more flavorful, even if they don’t have the same star recognition.
Oxalis is closing at the end of the year though, in advance of moving to a new space in the neighborhood. The current space will become an all day café in the Spring.
Incredible selection of bars: BierWax, LaLou (though a bit pricey), Bilt Bar, Finn’s Corner, Bearded Lady, Sweet Polly, Tooker Alley and more. Take your pick, none miss.
Dinner Party! It’s run by a girl I went to college with. They have a great brunch
I would suggest the following:
– Cruz del Sur – it’s my favorite Mexican restaurant in NYC. They serve Guadalajara-style cuisine, including the famous torta ahogada (drowned torta in tomato sauce). I go for the vegetarian version with oyster mushrooms, but I’ve been told the meat one is authentic and great as well
– Sofreh – it’s not especially authentic and is probably a little bit overhyped, but we can’t cover these neighborhoods and not include it on the list, especially in a city as starved for Persian food as NY
– Brooklyn Curry Project (on Saturdays, at the Fort Greene market) – they offer a few hard to find South Indian dishes, such as the tatte (plate) idlis covered in gunpowder. As good as the ones you’d have in Matunga
– Roman’s – just go now and try their fava bean puree. It’s life-changing
– Bar Laika by e-flux – for your friends who are always looking for a hidden spot, this cocktail bar/artspace is what you need. And their Japanese curry is pretty good
– Speedy Romeo – gotta love their Kind Brother pie with an egg in the middle. And gotta love a wood fired pizza in general
