Had some extra metal laying around the fab shop and since Im hosting Turkey day. Figured Id throw together a new custom smoker/grill. Cause who doesn’t love a good direct heat bird with crispy skin.

(still to be completed, after the holiday, are the double wall with insulation, offset fire box, sear pan for steaks and hopefully a pizza stone/steel for the bottom bricks so it can also be a pizza oven maybe.)

After a few heat cycles and cleanings the first meal went on today. 2lbs drumsticks, 2lbs of bacon and a spatchcocked Chicken. All turned out so good! Something about meat cooked over a fire… delicious.

Pretty sweet direct cooker! Wish I had the talent to do something like that. That’s really cool.

    That looks amazing.

What metal thickness did you use for the bottom/sides/top?

Edit: And how do the doors stay shut?

Epic build. How long until you cut a couple holes to accommodate and auto fan/temp controller? It’s the only thing you’re missing with that fancy rig

Just one little hole and an Amazon purchase. It won’t hurt too much. (Then pics) You know you want to! Errr, make me one? In PA but willing to drive for pickup or bbq haha

Seriously great. I wish I could work metal like that!!
